Haley The next day one of the first things we do is exhume Akila’s mother and burn her remains. Akila says some incantations while her body burns and appears to be praying. We all watch, fascinated by this ritual. Mason takes Akila by the hand once it appears she is done praying and she allows him to embrace her.
