"Aves..." Wendy looked deeply aggrieved, as if Avery was the one who had betrayed and hurt her.

Avery, however, wasn't buying it.

She said, "Harry isn't here, so there's no need to put on a show for me. And don't use 'feelings can be uncontrollable' as an excuse for your schemes. How are you any different from an animal if you can't even control your feelings?"

Avery's sharp words took Wendy aback. Her face paled.

"Aves, you can say whatever you want about me, but please don't talk about Harry that way..."

"I'm not interested in talking about you or Harry," Avery said, averting her gaze. "You'd better smarten up. And from now on, don't call me Aves. We're not close."

"Ding." The elevator arrived. Avery didn't spare Wendy another glance as she stepped in and left.

Wendy watched the elevator doors close and bit her lip in frustration. She stood still and stared at the numbers on the elevator screen as they stopped at the top floor.
