Bella's POV

As I retrieved the wine and ice, my mind raced with possibilities. We needed to be proactive in our efforts to protect ourselves, but we also couldn't ignore the fact that we were in love. Our relationship was on the line, but we couldn't let that distract us from the danger we faced.

When I returned with the drinks, Avery took a sip and looked at me with a serious expression. "Bella, I need to tell you something else," he said, his voice filled with hesitation. "I've been keeping something from you."

My heart sank as he spoke those words. I knew that this couldn't be good. Has he found out something, or does he know I am a fraud? I need to be prepared for whatever is coming but I never expected it to be this early, my thoughts running in different lanes. "What is it?" I asked finally, my voice trembling with fear.
