Chapter 28
Veronica walked into the forest and hit a tree with a bare fist. She wanted to cry. Despite being alone without anyone to impress, her tears would not come. Maybe she had already cried them all.
She was so confused about her relationship with Prince Vaugn, while she appreciated the simplicity of her relationship with Roger. She had learned to love Roger completely. But there wasn’t the same attraction to him as there was with the prince and there were other emotions that she didn’t quite understand.
It seemed like those emotions were what fueled the confusion. She remembered how Prince Vaugn had promised to listen to her and take her advice when it came to leading his country. It was a beautiful dream he had taken away.

Her heart tried to beat through the wall of her chest, as she stood still peering into the darkness beyond her light. Her fear almost made Veronica regret getting out of bed in the first place. I have lived in the walls of this giant prison ever since I was able to escape the Ogre that used to beat me every day. I was with the Ogre since before I could remember.
