Chapter Three
Irene's POV
I didn't know where I was running to but I knew that I ran as fast as my legs could carry.
Trying to catch my breath, I maneuvered deep inside the forest, the reflection of the moon lit up the whole forest and that was the only thing that I was grateful for.
The wind whistled into my ear, whipping some strands of air on my face while blowing my head back. I have been running since I escaped my father's house but the more I ran, the more it looked like I was running deeper into the forest.
I prayed fervently inside of me, praying to come across a road soon because when I paused and looked around me, I was surrounded by thick bushes and the eerie sounds that emanated deep inside the forest sent chills down my spine.
When I saw that I had covered quite a great amount of distance, I slowed down the pace at which I ran. I was thirsty and weak and with the amount of distance that I covered, I was sure that my parents would never find me!
How could they be so heartless! Why would they use me as an exchange for the debt that they owed? How could they do this to me? Trying to get married to a man that I didn't know? I had my whole life ahead of me. My plan wasn't to get married at twenty!
I was still trying to save up for college, I wanted to become an engineer!
Even though I have never received support or help from my father and stepmother, I never complained and did things on my own.
I paid for the food that I ate! I paid for the rent also! I paid for the water that I drank!
The only way they paid me back was using me to pay their debt!
In my next life, I don't want to come across them again.
From the way my stepmother talked about the man they were trying to force me to get married to, he sounded really scary.
The chirping sound of crickets and the hoots from owls made me quiver in fear. There was something about the forest that seemed and looked really scary or maybe it was because of the fact that my mind wasn't at rest.
I shoved all the thoughts about my fear and continued walking until the rustling of leaves caused me to stand still.
A lizard ran over my foot as I jumped and squealed in fright, my scream coming back as echoes in my ear.
I stopped in my tracks when I heard a growl that caused shivers to run down my spine, I began to retract my step backward, looking around me in fear.
Whatever scared me in the darkness, continued to make that growling sound without showing itself. It was more like it was waiting for a perfect time to pounce on me or maybe I was wrong.
Beads of sweat began to form on my head as I kept walking backwards. Inside me, I was praying for my safety.
I couldn't just imagine running away from home only to end up being eaten by a beast in the forest.
My steps were still regressed when my back suddenly hit something hard. My heartbeat increased rapidly and it looked like the world stood still for a second.
My stomach tied a knot, after feeling his breath over behind my ear. A part of me wanted to run back to where the beast growled from, another part of me wished that I had never left home.
Because whoever was standing behind me exuded a cold aura and demeanor that doesn't feel right for a reason.
My eyes grew wide when I saw the men that jumped out of the thick bushes, they were all wearing black and they were incredibly good-looking.
I could swear that what scared me was a wolf but how it turned out to be humans was something I couldn't fathom.
All of a sudden, I could feel the man behind me wrap his hands around my waist. My knees weakened and it felt like every piece of me was crumbling down.
When I felt his hands around my waist, the only thought that popped up inside my head was that I was about to be kidnapped by human traffickers.
I mustered every strength in me and attempted to raise my leg to kick him in the leg but when I tried to raise my leg, it felt like my soul went out of my body.
I titled to look at the man who stood behind me. My mouth was fully agape, his eyes glimmered beneath the moonlight like the brightest emerald. His jawline was so sharp that it looked like it was crafted by a master craftsman.
The more I stared into his eyes, the more it looked like I was about to be bewitched. His eyes sparkled with mirth and he seemed like he was created from a caste different than mine, he had an androgynous look that was uncommon.
The beauty that he radiated was something that I had never seen before. I would say that he was perfect.
"W-Who are you?" I stuttered with my eyes fixated on him.
He shook his head and brought out a picture from the pocket of the jacket he was wearing. He glanced back and forth at the picture and me, his eyebrows arched in confusion. He took a clearer look at me before averting his gaze back to the picture.
"Is it just me or your picture looks better than you?" He remarked, throwing me into confusion.
"What do you mean?" I asked as he ignored my question and made eye contact with someone standing behind me.
"You are Irene?"
I hesitated to tell him that I was Irene at first because everything looked really suspicious but I nodded to being Irene.
"Yes, Irene"
"If I may ask, why did you run away from me? What's my soon to be wife doing in the middle of the forest?"
Then slowly, it dawned on me that the man I was standing right in front of was the man who tried to waive off my father's debt by using me in exchange for his debt.
Before I could run, someone carried me from behind and my eyesight was starting to get blurred.
Slowly, everything went pitch black and that was the last thing that I could remember.
Chapter FourXavier's P.O.V I was livid when Damian, through the mind link, told me that the woman who was given as an exchange for her father's debt, disappeared mysteriously. The woman I planned on getting married to just because of the Supreme Alpha title that I wanted to get at all cost, ran away and it wasn’t even funny a bit. Mr. Martin, a former security officer who once worked in my company, came to my office asking me to lend him a huge amount of money because he wanted to take care of his ailing daughter who was bedridden and needed surgery to be flown to India. Because he had been working with me for long, I lent him the one million dollars that he asked for. Deep down, I knew he was trying to deceive me because I had the youngest member of my pack, Zack, keep a tab on him. I got reports about how he swindled the money, gambling and drinking till the money was finished. When the Supreme Alpha talked about how getting a mate is important, It infuriated me becau
Chapter Five Irene's P.O.VWith the way my back hit the wall and with the way he dragged me inside the room, something cut deep into my flesh and I had no idea about what it was but all I knew was that I felt a jarring pain on my leg and I was bleeding really bad. I heard some incoherent words outside the door but the only word that I could grasp was 'dinner party.' Whatever they were talking about wasn't my business nor was I interested in them. The only thing I was bothered about was how I got here! From what I could recollect last, I ran away from home by climbing through the fence, finding myself deep in the forest then I heard a growling sound that sent goosebumps all over my skin. When I walked backwards, I hit my back against something hard! Suddenly, his eyes that glimmered beneath the moonlight flashed through my head. Wait a second, wasn't he the same man who pushed me inside now? Slowly, his words last night began to flash through my head.He asked why I was runnin
Chapter 6Xavier's P.O.V The warriors of Liam's pack all transformed into werewolves as they charged toward me, trying to protect their master before I could attack him. The sound of bones cracking filled the air and their howls and growls filled the room as they encircled me with Liam standing behind them still in his human form, his upper lip curled over his sharp incisors. "Enjoy the show, Xavier" I already connected with my pack members for them to stay alert outside the house and they must be in their wolf form. Someone needed to teach Liam a lesson and that was what I planned on doing today! He surely brought himself inside Lion's den and today, I would make him experience what happens to people who cross their territory. The werewolves charged toward me, gripping me on the back while I lifted one in the air, throwing him on the ones standing before me as they let out a howl. I connected with my beta, for him to come to take Irene out of this place before she gets injure
Chapter 7Xavier's P.O.V I called for an urgent meeting and I was very sure that all the Alphas were already at Supreme Alpha Conan's house. I stylishly sent words to Supreme Alpha Conan to inform him about what his son did and how he almost killed my mate and me.Emphasizing my mate, I exaggerated a lot of things all in a bid to make sure that Liam would be given the punishment that he deserves. Supreme Alpha Conan wasn't going to spare Liam one bit so I had to make sure that Supreme Alpha Conan wouldn't have a reason to have mercy or pity on Liam. I left my Beta, Damian, outside the pack house, giving him strict instructions on not letting them escape because when Liam launched his attack, his Beta, Scott, wasn't there. I didn't want to take any chances with Liam because there was a high possibility that Liam might have connected with Scott through the mind link. I sauntered into the pack house, running my hands through my hair while making sure that it was well tousled. I
Chapter 8Irene's P.O.V I kept turning and tossing on my bed, I had a nightmare that sent chills to my bone as my eyes fluttered open with fore beads of sweat on my forehead. I scrutinized the room with my eyes, placing a hand on my head as I felt a sharp pain in my head.My sight was blurred as I leaned against the headboard of the bed, trying to process where I was. Slowly, all the memories came rushing into my head and most especially, how the man who was forcefully getting married to me turned out to be a werewolf. From what I could recollect, this wasn't the room I was in earlier. Could it be that the men who came to attack Xavier, killed him already and decided to take me with them? I hoped that was the case because I couldn't just wrap my head around the werewolf stuff and how my father could force me into a marriage with a werewolf. The most important thing was Xavier was dead already and if those people spared my life and brought me here, it could only mean one thing! And i
Chapter NineXavier's P.O.V I couldn't describe the anger that I felt on seeing Irene still wearing the same clothes she had on before she left. I heard Irene throwing a fit up the stairs, screaming and crying for them to leave her alone. Sounds of broken glasses echoed around the house but that wasn't my business, my gaze was fixed on the wall clock. It was two minutes remaining and if Irene wasn't out before the time lapsed, then trouble would surely ensue. Sitting at the slave quarters was something that the servants found surprising because whenever they locked eyes with me, they stood still, quivering with their heads ducked down until I dispersed them off. "Leave me alone! I don't want to get married " Irene screamed out her lungs as she was dragged out by some servants. The mascara on her face was smeared by the tears that streamed down her face. She was a total mess with her disheveled hair. "I tried to do my best by dressing her well but she ruined it herself. I am sorry,
Chapter TenIrene's P.O.VThe word "Wife" kept ringing in my head as I brushed through my hair. The maids trooped in with luxurious shopping bags while standing behind me as they watched me brush through my hair while smothering it with oil. "Please leave" I muttered, almost bawling my eyes before them, for them to just leave me alone. It was just a day after my forced marriage and I felt suffocated already. I doubted that I would be able to last a week in this darned house. Everybody suffocated me, most especially the maids who always ensured that I was okay.A lot of women would have loved to be in my shoes as long as they enjoyed the princess treatment but I could swear that I would never get used to this life! The more they surrounded me, the more it felt like I was in an enclosed space, struggling to gasp for air. Lily walked towards me with her head ducked down, she knelt, bowing her head while I rolled my eyes because I couldn't count the number of times that I had warned
Chapter 11Xavier's P.O.V My hope was that Irene doesn't mess things up for me. I was finally a step away from achieving my dreams, Liam was already kicked out and the ball was now in Irene's court. When I saw how she quivered and lowered her head in fear, I shook my head in nothing but sheer pity for her. I focused my gaze on the clock and averted it back to Irene whose head was still ducked down as she fiddled with her fingers. "Irene, I am not trying to hurt you or anything but if you listen to my instructions, I would treat you well"She bobbed her head nervously as she squirmed in her seat. Now, she was beginning to annoy me because with the way she was all aquiver, it made me wonder if this was how she would act when we got to the Supreme Alpha's house. "Irene, are you even listening to what I am saying?" I glared at her as we made eye contact while she suddenly lowered her head."Y-Yes" She stuttered, pursing her lips. I swept my hair backward as I heaved out an exaspera
