Chapter 29: Dessert (Matthew)

Watching her move around the kitchen while she cooks is like watching some sort of ballet. The food she’s cooking smells phenomenal. She brings me a glass of whiskey and we make small talk while she cooks. Her cat keeps harassing me, rubbing himself all around my ankles and meowing at me but I don’t mind.

Dinner is ready and I’m hoping it tastes as good as it looks and smells. I take the first bite and I’m in heaven. The steak is tender and melts in my mouth. Everything is seasoned just right and cooked to perfection.

“This is incredible! Where did you learn to cook so well?” I ask before shoveling another forkful into my mouth.

“My dad, actually. I always helped in the kitchen growing up. My mom was a terrible cook. She could burn a pot of water. I really expanded my love for cooking when I moved out on my own.”

“I’ve eaten at 5 star restaurants all over the world and this is one of the best things I’ve ever eaten.”

She blushes and takes a sip of her wine.
