Chapter 46: A Revelation
I answer it with a shaky hand, but I don't say anything for a second to see if it’s Darleen calling, “Hello?! Evette? Is this you?!”
I’d know that voice anywhere, but I wasn’t sure I could trust her yet, “What do you want?” I asked, unsure of her.
“Good gracious! What the hell happened to you?! You are all over the place, and you just up and left? I’m not trying to get your location if that’s what you're thinking. So speak up, woman!” She shouts.
A moment of silence stretches between us until she speaks up again, “What happened to you?” she asks. I knew she would ask that, and honestly, I didn’t know what to tell her.
