33. Drowned

I walked out of the palace, following my dad and sister. My eyes briefly flickered to the dark red spray of blood on the ground. The sand had turned a dark brown, leaving messages of what had happened there. I could almost feel her eye on my back.

The body was moved, but the blood stain still stayed. I scoffed. Thalia Red was an useful ally, but I knew the moment when I first met her, that she had to be discarded when it was time. She was like a paper cup, my paper cup. I needed her as long as I needed her, and at the end, she was dispensable.

For something great to happen, sacrifices had to be made. She was just the first of the many that would follow.

I still remembered the time I met her first in Zarique, the city of literates, as it was called. There were a lot of schools, colleges, institutes in Zarique, and it was a neutral territory existing in between the realm of the wolves and the realm of the witches. The city of Zarique didn’t govern under any supernatural laws. T
