46. Vacationing makes way for romance

"Nothing happened. I want to be left alone," she said and made to leave but I pulled her back to me.

"But I already apologized. There's nothing between me and Alice. She tried to seduce me and I was about to refuse her when you showed up. I never intended to hurt you," I explained.

"I don't think there's any need for you to explain yourself to me. You're my boss and it's your life. I can't interfere with that," she said.

"Where did you sleep last night?" I asked.

"At my parents house," she replied. I breathed in deeply and placed my hands in my pocket. I felt I should have informed Jude to carry out a total background check when he asked. I would have known a lot about her.

The only thing I knew about her was that she was a poor and struggling artist who I found on my bed the next day.

"And I hope you had a good rest?" I asked again and she shrugged.

"Can I leave now?" She asked.
