Chapter 42: Unmarked She-wolf is Rare

Five wolves were waiting there for me when we got to our pack borders, and Erix was not among them. A few lights on posts scattered around close by helped my human eyes to see at night, and I was thankful for that. I hadn't held onto all of my superhuman senses with the current state of my wolf, my night vision being one of them. It was considerably weakened.

The Alpha, whom I had met in the woods, was in his wolf form a few feet before me. It seemed the pack members knew him as they bowed their heads in acknowledgment.

Jude was the first to speak.

"Quintin," he said politely, watching the wolf. His eyes then moved to mine. He looked worried and a little upset. It mirrored the rest of the wolves' faces. This was nothing like the laid-back, teasing Jude from the last night. He was serious and concerned now.

I felt bad I had caused all of this. Guilt was eating away at me. They probably looked for me all night if I hadn't shown back up.
