“How so?” I queried.

Nate took a seat back at the dining table as he cautiously eyed Maddie, before gripping my hips and pulling me down on his lap.

Joe flashed Maddie half a smile, almost as if he was offering encouragement. An uneasy feeling grew in the pit of my stomach as I anxiously anticipated what was to come.

“Alright.” Maddie begun, as she inhaled deeply. “As you all know, I don’t have a wolf.” I frowned as I listened to her, I couldn’t help but consider how off topic this conversation was heading.

“The time will come, Maddie. Don’t worry.” Amber gave her a reassuring smile, but Maddie shook her head in response. “No, the time won’t ever come. You see, I’ll never get one because I’m not a werewolf.”
