Chapter 67I sat in my bathtub and watched my maids attempt to bath me without causing me much pain.I sniffed, and Arnou looked at me angrily. He had been acting like a wolf in heat, refusing to leave my side for a single second. His presence was making my maids nervous and our usually chatty bath time was silent.I was running a fever and it's because of the stress today. After the meeting, I mistakenly let Herley and Arnou in on the fact that I was still in pain.I had honestly thought, the pain would get better with time. But at the end of the day, I felt even worse than I had at the beginning. My entire body ached and I couldn't bear to be touched.Arnou had yelled in anger, in a voice so loud, Granny had come running. Within a few minutes, they had transported me from the meeting room to my chambers.I know Arnou is still angry I lied to him, this morning. But I had to. If I had told him the true extent of the pain I was feeling this morning, he would never have let me do the in
I lay on my bed with my eyes closed. Sleep hadn't come to lull me away yet and the events of the day kept running through my mind.I heard the sound of my door opening and I opened one eye to see who it was that had come into my room.It was Arnou.“How are you feeling now?” he asked softly.I sighed and sat up gently.“That's all everybody keeps asking me. What am I supposed to say? That I'm not fine?” I replied weakly.Arnou strode towards me softly and began to remove his shirt.“I know, you're not so happy with me because I supported Herley earlier,” Arnou said as he pulled the chair from my dresser and sat beside the bed.“Yeah, I'm not exactly happy about that,” I replied honestly.“But can you make me understand why? I understand that the both of you don't like each other. That's understandable, I mean I don't expect you to like everyone. But what exactly has she done to make you hate her so much?” Arnold asked me carefully.I could tell that he was trying his best not to trig
Chapter 69The next day was a flurry of activity. It felt good to have Arnou on my side, he was an effective worker. Much better than Eden, who used to leave all the tedious work for me.When I woke up sometime in the late morning, Arnou was already up and working. I had watched him for a while before he noticed I was awake. The pain this morning was better. At least I could be touched, but only lightly.Arnou had stood beside me like some guard or soldier to make sure everything went well.He had tasted every food and even the water I drank. I had protested, I mean if it was really poisoned I didn't want him falling sick. He had brushed off my concerns and adamantly tasted all my food items and made me wait five minutes before eating. It was really cute watching him get bothered like that.Arnou and I had been working since morning. Well mostly Arnou, I’ve been sitting on the bed and pestering him for information.I initially wanted to get up do and help in the research but he ada
“You can come in,” I called out in a loud voice. The door pushed open and Gabriel came inside.Arnou shot me an inquisitive look and I smiled at him.“Good afternoon queen of queens. Lycan,” Gabriel greeted with a bow.“Afternoon,” I replied pleasantly.“Do you have the information I requested?” I asked him directly as I motioned for Arnou to pass me a glass of water.“Not entirely, but I have some information. It's all here,” Gabriel said as he reached into his waistcoat pocket and retrieved a piece of paper.I stretched out my hand and he handed me the paper.I frowned as I tried to make sense of his squiggly handwriting.“And what am I supposed to be looking at?” I asked with distaste.“I'm sorry high Luna, I don't know you would request it so soon. I would have written it out clearly,” he apologizedI waved his apology away and tried to read the paper.“So? Did you find out where she's from?” I asked him while I tried to make sense of the information on the piece of paper.“Who?”
Chapter 71The door opened and Feyre stepped into my room. I breathed a sigh of relief while Arnou just looked confused. All the events that had been happening were making me a bit jumpy.“Good afternoon Lycan, Queen of Queens,” She greeted quickly with a bow.“Who is she?” Arnou asked skeptically.“This is Feyre, she’s the maid who I gave my phone to fix,” I replied. He nodded as understanding seemed to dawn in his eyes.“How are you feeling now? I called for you a week ago but I was told you were unwell,” I asked her.“I’m better now high Luna,” She replied meekly.“Okay, tell me what you’ve got for me. I asked you to put your eyes on Herley at my engagement party. Did she meet with anyone suspicious?” I asked her.Arnou seemed surprised but he didn’t say anything.“No high Luna, She seemed to speak with Princess Alisa a lot, but that’s not unusual. She also met with some generals, but nothing serious.” She replied with a bow.“Well she has an accomplice in the palace and it was you
Chapter 72“Arnou what is it?” I hissed in irritation. I stopped and tried my best to remain on my feet.“Sorry about that. It’s just, I recognized this plant from the books I've been researching all day. It’s poisonous, and you were about to walk right into it,” Arnou apologized.I felt horrible, he had just been looking out for me and I had snapped at him.“I’m sorry, Arnou,” I apologized sadly.“Hey, it’s okay. Come with me, let’s walk over there,” he responded as he herded me over to another part of the garden.I enjoyed the walk, Arnou and I have been so individually busy that we hadn’t had time to spend together. So the walk, made me kind of happy. We took turns asking each other all sorts of questions, both personal and silly. After our walk, we went back to my chambers and I took a quick bath. Arnou once again, stayed by my side the whole time.I had gotten used to him seeing my naked form, and his presence didn’t bother me.But it did make me wonder if he missed his chambers.
Chapter 73The rest of the meal passed in comfortable silence. At least on my part, I was so lost in my thoughts, Arnou gave up on trying to get to inverse with me after asking three questions and not getting any answers. There was just something about the information that Granny had given me that seemed so familiar. It's unexplainable. I tried to think of where I could have heard those names before but I came up blank.I could barely eat as the information took up space in my head. I had to find out more about those names and why they seemed so familiar.I dropped my fork loudly and Arnou jumped slightly.“Are you okay?” he asked, concerned. I looked at Granny, and she too seemed quite stressed and concerned about me.“I'm fine, sorry, my mind is just full at the moment. Please excuse me,” I said politely as I pushed my chair back and got up from the dining table.Arnou seemed surprised but held his tongue. He’s probably pieced together the fact that it might be our investigation tha
From the corner of my mind, I could register my room door opening and my maids rushing inside.Arnou was panicking badly and trying to get me to respond to him but I couldn't. It seemed like I had floated to a secluded corner of my mind from which I observed everything around me.Different people kept coming in and leaving my room and sometime during the commotion I fell asleep. That night, I seemed to be transported to a different plane. It was some kind of dream but felt so surreal I was confused.I opened my eyes and the first thing I observed was the cold. Someone was lying on top of me trying to conserve my body heat.I felt grateful for whoever that person was. Nafira. The girl laying on me was called Nafira.I don't know how I know that, but I do.“Hey, wake up,” I said softly as I tried to pry her off with my small hands.I knew she had to be able because someone was coming. I felt a sense of urgency I didn't understand and tried my best to wake her again.“Nafira! Come on,”
