Chapter 2

★★★

Anne sat behind her computer at her office, pounding at it, she occasionally rubbed the back of her neck with her palm as she tried to relief the pounding ache that violently thumped at a certain part of her brain. As she got deeply engrossed in her work, Ryan walked in.

"Director, i think-"

" i told you, do not call me "Director" when it's just me and you.

You can drop the formalities. "

she said, with a slight tenderness in her voice. She had always had a tender spot for Ryan. No one knew she had that part to her, she knew how every one of them saw her–as the devil's incarnate. She wasn't bothered by that. She was a being designed to instill fear in others, and she greatly enjoyed it occasionally.

"I'm sorry direc- Anne .

I checked through all the available files, and I think it's time to bring her in.. she's highly skilled. and in case anything goes wrong, like it did yesterday, she'd know how to handle it. " he could never get too informal with Anne. She was the director and he was used to giving her a certain amount of respect.

"You think so? Are you sure she's ready?  "She replied after giving it a little more thought.

"I'm sure." He said with assurance in his tone.

" Well, if you're sure about it then, send her in. how's the other subjects responding? Any improvement?"

"not yet."

she hummed a sigh of disappointment

"we can't risk not getting any results. it's been three years already. make sure she's here by tomorrow. in two weeks, it'll be the full moon..l and I think he's growing more resistant towards the drugs. if he woke up yesterday, who knows what might happen, on the full moon.. he's our core subject, we can't lose him. "

"okay Director."

Like they'd discussed, Olivia was brought in and taken to the guest quarters in the center (research lab). Anne had waited for her arrival, and when she'd arrived, she made her way to meet her.

"Hi. Miss Anne Weasley. Read all your works on bio–genetics . you inspired me " she smiled, beaming with excitement.

Anne smiled smugly, "Welcome, you must be tired. get some rest. when you're fully rested, Ryan would brief you on what to do."

"I don't need to rest, would get to work right away."

What Olivia Williams hated most about travels was the jet lags, but she was never the type to rest when there was work to do, like Anne, she was also one of the best bio-geneticist, who had done a great deal of works  which had yielded several noticeable results, that was the reason Anne had wanted her here. And she had been willing, not aware of the unpleasant surprise that was about to crop out.

"are you sure you don't need rest?" She was surprised Olivia wouldn't rest, even after traveling a great distance. But she also loved the fact that she took the work seriously. She'd always wanted to work with someone just like her, restless, ready to work at anytime and in any circumstances, and was devoted to the cause.

"I am. let's take a look at the subject." She replied.

"okay. Ryan, Take her. and show her the previous reports."

After Anne had left, Ryan took Olivia to Lucas's room, signalled the guards to leave, then they entered the room

"that's him!? the subject!." Olivia was shocked and startled to see the subject was a human. Who'd agreed on experimenting on a human? That was against everything they stood for. And with the way he'd been strapped and locked up, she'd doubted if he'd agreed to it.

" yes. like you were told, he's special. his Gene is unique.

We tried to make more of his kind.

We tried Gene mutation, recombination, and replication.

But, we got zero match. one way, we always get loopholes. "

"his Gene isn't working with the others.

We've tried for years to understand his genes, and what they work with.

We brought you here to find and fix those loopholes.

I'll be sending you his previous reports, but for now, make sure to keep him highly sedated.

Double the dose if you notice any movement."

"isn't it going to be too harmful for him if the dose is increased?, Nobody  told me you were experimenting on humans.

And how unique and special is he? To be this sedated? Is this even legal? I thought we were supposed to be legal practitioners."  She asked. This didn't make sense. None of it did.

"you do as you're told! no questions. you signed up for this, and make sure to always keep an eye on him. you only leave this room for an hour, and you should always have him sedated !." He said, with a stern voice.

"I'll be sending the reviews to you."

"I'd like to see The Director." She needed some explanation and if Ryan wasn't going to give her, at least the Director was.

"that'll be when you're having your one -hour break."

He walked out of the room and the guards came back to guarding. she went over to where Lucas was lying down. all strapped and tied down.

Olivia found herself admiring the man tied down, he was like a Greek god, maybe if he was really a god, he would have been the god of sleep, she thought. He looked beautiful even while asleep, he had nose too straight, shoulders too broad,  he sported a tough guy jaw, though his brown hair was much longer than necessary, they'd looked like shampoo and a comb hadn't touched them in years, but he still managed to give off a dreamy fantasy look. He was too damn perfect, she wondered how he could be asleep and still looked beautiful.

" what is so special about you? To make you end up here." She asked as she stared at him awestruck, amused and surprised. How could a human be far too perfect even while asleep?.
