"I said I will always be there for you." Carlo said, helping Cynthia fill her cup with herbal tea again. His eyes looked insistent, terribly insistent.

Cynthia shuddered to think that if she hadn't spent time with the man before, she would have thought the man had gone insane. Carlo's eyes sometimes became paranoid, like a sick man who had just escaped from his confinement island.

But most of the time he was still gentle. She tried to ask the private doctor who had last examined her about Carlo's psychological condition. But the man just didn't say a word, and gestured with his eyes for her to stop asking.

Cynthia had the feeling that she was living in the Valley of Terror, that the man in front of her was a dream, a fantasy, and that she was a little frightened.

Cynthia dared not meet his eyes and averted her own, but said stubbornly, "I didn't think you'd be like this."
