Chapter 26

I had resolved that on the three days a week when I didn't have to look after my kids, I'd work late. Home felt too quiet and empty, and to be completely honest, I'm one of those adults who's spooked by the idea of ghosts and prefers the comfort of sleeping beside someone.

One of the toughest aspects of my separation was the absence of a husband to share my bed with. Next to Archer, I always felt protected and secure.

With a groan, I checked my phone and saw that it was already 8 pm. I could either head home or spend some time here preparing notes for my next case. After ten minutes of contemplation, I decided to get some coffee.

As I stood up, cup in hand, a knock on my office door interrupted my thoughts. Peering through the translucent window, I spotted a tall, muscular figure standing outside. Instinctively, I knew who it was.

Opening the door, I walked past Jason towards the break room. I sensed his faint footsteps following me as I approached the huge coffee machin
