A week had passed since Jason dropped me home, and thankfully, true to his word, he hadn’t tried to contact me again. The week went surprisingly smoothly. I had very limited interactions with Archer, didn’t cross paths with Aurora even once, and the kids were surprisingly well-behaved.

But I knew my streak of serenity wasn’t going to last long. Today was Archer’s birthday, and I had to attend the party held in his honour. My mother-in-law had extended a special invitation to me, and knowing Archer would want his kids there, I didn’t really have much of a choice.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm golden glow over the sprawling gardens of the Lancaster Mansion, the estate came alive with the lavish decorations that were done. The air was thick with anticipation as guests from all corners of the city arrived, their sleek cars pulling up to the grand entrance in a steady stream.
