Chapter Forty Three

USA, 2022

As the letter comes to an end, I keep the pen aside, studying my work with my lips pursed. Hopefully this letter is just a formality and will not be needed. Theo will not need to read it, because I will tell everything to her myself.

But just in case. I tell myself over and over again. Just in case something is to go wrong in this plan, if something is to happen to me, then she will need it. Until then, I will keep it with me.

Turning my attention to my little girl, I brush the stray strands of hairs from her forehead as she sleeps peacefully on my lap, her tiny head resting against my chest.

"I'm sorry." I whisper, swallowing the bile in my throat and blinking rapidly to remove the glassiness from my eyes. "I'm sorry you have to go through this, especially at such a raw age. You don't deserve this; you don't deserve this mess from my past life. Please, forgive me. Forgive mommy."
