Chapter 3

Scattered across my desk were all the information my sources could gather about the Saint family, and the Silverfang pack. Which in truth, wasn't as much as I'd hoped to see.

"Silvia Saint...age 25... blood type A... 5ft 6...." I leisurely read, both I and my wolf were unimpressed by her. Of course, she wasn't ugly, she had clear blue eyes and raven-black hair. Her solid features made Silvia at first glance appear to look like a model.

She joined the family business at age 22 and made a name for herself amongst the other businesses in under a span of three years. A woman like her should be every Alpha's dream woman...strong, smart and beautiful.

The perfect Luna.

The only problem in this situation was that I wasn't interested in tying the knot or settling down any time soon.

"Can't you set a meeting with her?" I asked Gwendolyn once more, staring at my computer, desperately waiting for her to respond to my email.

Aside from her parents, she does have a younger brother, but he's overseas and won't be attending the engagement." She informed me, pushing the file that contained all his information to me.

I glanced through it, though there was less about her brother than the entire family.

"It says here that he was placed in prison for six months, and he's...nineteen years old," I observed, staring at the name Kian Saint, written in italic font.

"Couldn't you get me a photo of him?" I questioned, unintentionally raising my voice due to all the stress I was undergoing.

"Stop pestering Gwen, she's done the best she can, don't be an asshole, asshole," Oliver remarked, reminding me of his presence in my office.

Three days had passed by and tomorrow was the day of my engagement ceremony! Father and Mr. Saint rented an entire hotel for the event and invited a good number of packs under our jurisdiction.

"Try speaking when your bloody engagement is tomorrow! Father is serious about disinheriting me, he's spoken to the lawyer and everything." The entire issue was causing me to frown more than I'd liked to.

"From what I've heard, Silvia hasn't found her mate yet, the poor woman probably gets an ear full from the pack elders," Gwendolyn remarked, feeling sorry for my enemy.

"That's one thing you both have in common, being reprimanded by elders." Oliver sarcastically inserted, earning a slight chuckle from my secretary.

"With all due respect sir, perhaps you should try giving this marriage a chance. Your wolf must certainly not like being alone, don't grieve him too much." She spoke, her tone hinting that she might just be speaking from experience.

I reclined into my seat and pulled out a small bottle of alcohol from my breast pocket.

"If he wanted to be with someone, then I wouldn't have rejected three mates!"

"Don't blame Ralph for your lack of commitment, if anything, your playboy ways are rubbing off on him." Oliver retorted sharply, not giving me any room to counter.

"Whatever the outcome of tomorrow, I'll be certain to have a word with my bride-to-be. I'm sure she doesn't want this marriage either." I concluded, fully convinced that no woman in this world could possibly tame me.

Not a single one.

*Hotel*

Gwendolyn usually avoided social gatherings despite being taken in by my pack, though no one said anything against it, it didn't mean that everyone was on board with the idea.

Oliver was busy the entire night, meeting and greeting all the important figures that needed to be attended to. He was not only a strong fighter on the field but a smooth conversationalist.

While I was dragged around like a pup on a leash by my father, who wasted no time showing me off to his fellow retired Alphas, who now had grandkids to look after.

"Congratulations Alpha Davien, I hear Silvia is quite the catch." An old geezer shamelessly said, repeating the same thing father had told me. The old man fixed his lustful gaze on Silvia, who stood at the opposite side of the room, swarmed by she-wolves.

"I'm sure." Was my response, no matter how much people praised her, neither I nor my wolf could bring ourselves to get on by her appearance.

Perhaps, that made her special? In some way?

"I think it's about time we start this engagement, it's impolite to make a woman wait long." My overly excited father announced, raising a glass of red wine above his head.

"Gather around everyone! It's time we start the exchange of rings ceremony! We're not getting any younger just waiting around."

The other guests seemed to find what he said funny and laughed, I looked around the room, searching for Oliver. Till my eyes landed on the bastard, he was cornered by two curvy she-wolves, who were practically throwing themselves at him!

If this were not my engagement party, then I might have woken up the next morning, in the company of those two delicious-looking treats. My wolf seemed to be in sync with me, he was wagging his tail at the mental image.

"Come here Silvia dear." My father called out, pulling out a red velvet box from his front pocket, which held the rings he and mom exchanged during their engagement.

Silvia reluctantly complied, keeping her eyes glued to the floor as other she-wolves escorted her to the middle of the hall. She was dressed in an elegant red dress, which didn't show off too much skin, but was still eye-catching.

Her parents stood beside father, discussing some business, allowing me and Silvia a chance to speak to each other.

I had a million things to say to break the ice between us, however, Silvia was quicker to say something.

"Wow. You're just as handsome as the photo I saw." She exclaimed with her eyes facing down, and cheeks flushed pink.

I smiled.

"You're quite the catch yourself," I said in return, not wanting to be the only one who received any flattery.

"Oh, goddess! Are those old men still saying that?! I wish the ground would open up and swallow me whole." She cupped her face with her palms, hiding the embarrassment she was feeling.

"Oh yes, I wonder what could have started that rumor." I teased wanting to see what sort of reaction she would give me. For some reason, my wolf didn't seem to mind her scent, and I enjoyed her company.

We talked leisurely for almost ten whole minutes, chatting like we had known each other for ages. The more we conversed, the more I realized that she wasn't as uptight as her image portrayed.

I was far too focused on her that I failed to notice all eyes were pointed at the two of us. Who were busy laughing our heads off at how Silvia insisted she was locked in her parent's wine cellar when she was fourteen.

If Oliver hasn't used the mind link to bring me back to my senses, I might have gotten captivated by Silvia.

"It looks like the couple is getting far too cozy already, I for one can't wait to have young pups running around," Father stated, over exaggerating things.

Sure, I enjoyed her company, but that was it for me, she was fun to converse with which made this engagement worth my while.

Without wasting any more time, the engagement ceremony finally started at last. Father handed the rings over to me, wearing an all-knowing look on his face.

I opened the box to see a twin set of golden bands sitting next to each other, with the initials, A, and L inscribed on it.

"You might think I'm doing this to spite you son, but more than anyone, you deserve to be with someone. And no matter how you look at it, Silvia is that someone." Father whispered to only my hearing.

I would normally have laughed off his concern and said something sarcastic to spite him. But, just for that one moment, I let him have the final word.

Silvia seemed to have no problem with this marriage, heck she might be pleased after not finding her mate yet. I watched carefully as she took one of the rings, with jittery fingers unable to shake off the stares from every corner.

"Oops!" Silvia cried out, accidentally dropping one of the rings!

I immediately handed over the ring in my hand to father and rushed to retrieve it before it went missing.

The guests all parted ways for me, and my eyes followed the golden ring as if my life depended on it. I reached out to grab it from the floor, but a pair of black-painted fingernails beat me to it!

What the hell was that sweet scent? Like vanilla...

"I suppose this belongs to you?" An indifferent voice asked, demanding my immediate attention.

"Yes, it's my engagement ring..." That was what I was saying, till my vision locked with that of the black-haired, blue-eyed boy, who had one of the rings in his possession.

He had on a dark blue suit jacket and black leather jeans underneath, with chains strapped at each side. He had two earrings on his left ear and a mole underneath his right eye. He had a slim waistline that complimented his slender shoulders.

As our gazes met, one word carelessly fell out of my mouth in front of all these guests.

"Mate?!" I exclaimed, ridden in shock.
