The past never truly leaves

I looked at the tiny creature that was running towards me and I'm not going to lie, she was really cute but after what happened six years ago, I wasn't really into kids anymore.

Just when she was about to approach me, I placed my hand on her head, stopping her from coming any closer. She had her arms opened wide but hanging in the air.

"What do you think you are doing"?

Alexander asked but I simply looked at him and looked at the tiny girl.

Letting go of her head, I heard her speak.

"I guess mommy doesn't like to be hugged, hehe, sorry mom, I was simply excited to see you".

She said with an obviously sad smile on her face. It was impressive to see that she was already trying to control her emotions at her age.

After hearing her, one of my brows raised. I was not expecting a girl this little to be able to speak so well. Bending, I looked at her closely and smiled.

"Hey tiny".

I said and the tiny girl who was trying hard to hide how hurt she was suddenly smiled as I opened my arms for her to hug me.

Embracing me in a hug, I raised her and walked into the house with her.

'get a grip of yourself, Ayla, a job like this won't come again'.

I said to myself as I went inside.

For the rest of the day, Malia kept showing me around and showing me everything she owned.

It was safe to say I already knew quite a lot about her and the house, all thanks to her.

It was getting late and since we already had dinner, I told Alexander that I would like to see him.

"I'll be with you shortly, wait in my study".

He said and I left for the study since I already knew where it was located. When I got in, I realized it was much bigger than I thought. When I came in earlier, I didn't take the time to look around. I began looking around and I saw a brown book that looked very inviting.

"Wow, what is that"?

I said as I tried to reach the brown book on the top shelf. I took a stool and stood on it, to help me get the book.

Just as I was about to grab the book, I lost my balance and was about to fall.

"Wow... Wow... Wow!"

I yelled and closed my eyes. It took a few minutes before I opened them as I realized that my butt didn't hurt.

As soon as I opened my eyes, I met with two beautiful blue eyes. His eyes looked so beautiful, I couldn't look away and without thinking, I spoke.

"Hey, husband".

As soon as I said that, he dropped me and this time around, I felt my butt hit the floor.

"Ahh!! Why did you catch me if you were going to let me fall anyways"?

I asked as I stood up and dusted myself.

"Why are you snooping around"?

He asked, looking totally indifferent and I was cursing myself deep within. I could not believe I just called him husband.

"Uhh, I was waiting for you and I got bored".

Ayla couldn't see it but Alexander also had a lot of mixed reactions on his face.

'husband? Why did she call me husband? And... and why did she look like that with her eyes closed'?

He kept asking himself several questions but immediately shoved it away.

"Why did you want to see me"?

He asked and Ayla looked at him confused.

"Huh? Ohh yeah, I wanted to tell you that I'd be leaving for the night".

Alexander said nothing for a while and just looked at her.

"That's not possible, Malia will want to see you first thing tomorrow and even tonight. What would you have me tell her"?

He said and Ayla nodded, showing that she understood but she still spoke again.

"I understand but... I don't have anything to wear. As you know, everything happened so fast".

"If that's what you're worried about, I'll get your wardrobe fixed".

He said, rendering Ayla speechless for a while.

"Hold on, I didn't agree to this to be imprisoned, you know that... right"?

Ayla said, making him look at her again.

"I'm not imprisoning you. You can leave during the day, but not at night".

He insisted and Ayla decided not to argue anymore. Going out, Malia was standing by the door.

"Hi, Mom".

She said with a wide smile and without knowing, Ayla smiled back.

"Do you need something"?

She asked and Malia nodded eagerly.

"Can we play a game"?

She asked but Alex quickly countered.

"Not tonight Malia, your mom just got back and is very tired, I have to show her to her room".

He said and the already sad-looking Malia looked at him in shock.

"Huh? Does mommy sleep in a different room from daddy"?

She asked and both Alexander and Ayla looked at each other. Of course, it would make no sense to sleep separately.

"Of course not, Daddy here wants to show me to our room".

Ayla quickly said.

"Ohh".

Malia said and though she wasn't happy, she could understand that her mom might truly be tired.

"Sweet dreams Mom".

She said and hugged her again before running to her room.

Seeing as they could not avoid it anymore, Alex showed Ayla to his room and left for her to freshen up.

When Ayla got out of the bathroom, her outfit was already placed on the bed so she picked it up and wore it.

It was a big top and shorts. It felt comfortable so she didn't have a problem with it.

"This looks okay".

She said as she looked in the mirror. She was still checking herself out when her phone suddenly rang.

Picking it up, she realized it was an unknown number.

"Hello"?

She said as soon as the line was connected.

"Hi, Ayla".

A masculine voice spoke.

'that voice, I know that voice'.

She thought to herself before it suddenly clicked.

"Daniel"?
