Chapter 5

Evelyn Jackson and Bella worked in the same office. Evelyn used to be Bella's senior, and Jackson worked in finance. All three of them met at this office, and it was there that their friendship began.

Bella quickly rises through the ranks and receives acclaim for her efforts. She also received this year's best employee of the year award. To celebrate, both of the girls went to the club to party that day.

Bella had taken a week off due to a medical ailment, but her condition had improved; therefore, she needed to return to work shortly.

Bella and Evelyn arrive at the office. People notice the bandage on her wrist, but no one asks her about it. Everyone was preoccupied until Jackson approached them and revealed frightening news.

Jackson informs us that his company's CEO has been replaced by a new CEO who is a close friend of the president and that he will be handling all the company's affairs. Today is the CEO's first day, and he will be arriving soon.

That is why all the employees were busy welcoming him.

All the employees assemble in the corridor, and the CEO soon arrives. Everyone applauds him and presents him with a bunch of flowers. Bella was standing in the same line as Evelyn when she met the CEO. When she sees him, she is surprised because it is her ex-husband, Evan Knight.

Bella is absolutely stunned; she was so lost that she didn't notice Evan standing next to her with his hand extended towards her until Evelyn pushed her with her elbow, at which point she came to her senses. And she looks at Evan, then at the other people, shakes hands with Evan, and introduces herself as if they were meeting for the first time. She can't believe her eyes.

How can this man be here?

Evan was in his cabin, thinking about Bella. He saw her today. He was excited to see her, but he was also upset that he would have to face Bella every day now, since seeing her would bring back old negative memories that could only hurt him.

But he understood that his professional and personal lives had to be kept separate; here was the office, and he had to act professionally with Bella  .

Evan owns his own company, but he has appointed his brother as CEO since Adrian is a very competent businessman and can run his father's business.

Evan has a solid relationship with the head of this company, who spends most of his time in another country. That is why he appointed Evan to manage his company, which Evan gladly accepted. That is why he has returned here, but his luck has been awful. Unfortunately, he had no knowledge that his wife worked in the same place.

Evan calls his assistant. His assistant arrives and informs him of the day's schedule, but he is completely uninterested. He tells his assistant that he wishes to meet Bella, and Bella is directed to his cabin. His assistant bows his head and walks away, saying nothing.

After some time, Bella opens the cabin door and enters. Evan gazed at her. Bella 's gaze was downward. Evan glanced at her, despite her refusal to meet his gaze.

Evan said," There has been a lot of discussion about you. People at this company claim you are a highly hardworking woman, but why do I believe this hard work signals something different? Did you get all of this because of your hard work or by pleasing your superiors?"

Bella couldn't believe Evan could think such awful things about her; tears well up in her eyes, but she tries hard not to cry.

"I perform the tasks assigned to me here with the utmost honesty. I have no need to please anyone, but telling you all of this is pointless since you will not believe me because you only trust your own people and not others. If there is no work, please let me leave because I am ashamed to stand in front of you, not because I have made any faults, but because you are unworthy of my respect." Evan becomes enraged after hearing Bella's statements. He makes a fist, yet his face remains calm.

Evan said, “There are certain files on the table that have numerous errors in them. I want you to thoroughly review these files and rectify all the errors."

Bella said," but we verified them yesterday and found no errors. It took our entire team all day to check them, so why would you want to do it again now?"

"I haven't asked for your opinion; I have assigned you the work, and yes, you must complete it alone, without your team, so no further queries from me. Take these files and verify them alone, and I'll have everything done by this evening. The file must be on my table, and if I detect any errors, you can expect to lose your job." he said.

Bella grabs the files and turns to leave.

"Before you look into this, please get me a coffee; you know how I like it."

" Yes, sir."

She left.

Evan feels delightful after insulting her.

Bella goes into the kitchen and prepares coffee for Evan. She knew Evan preferred Adrian coffee without sugar, but Bella purposefully added sugar to it. Bella enters Evan's cabin with a cup of coffee and places it on the table. Evan was occupied with his laptop. He picks up the cup and takes a sip without looking at Bella. He throws out his coffee and stares furiously at Bella.

Evan throws the cup but mistakenly spills the hot coffee on Bella's hand; she wants to scream in pain but doesn't, so Evan stands up and walks her, holding her hand and trying to bear the pain.

Evan said," Don't tell me you've forgotten that I don't like sugar in my coffee or that you forgot what you did two years ago; I can't believe I ever fell in love with someone like you."

Bella had tears in her eyes as she looked at Evan; although she was still in pain, Evan's comments stung her the most.

"I won't accept any excuses. Go check the paperwork; one mistake, Bella, and you'll see the worst of me. Get out! " he shouted.

She ran out of the cabin.

He kicks the chair in frustration.

"Why do her tears hurt me? Why am I unable to bear her pain? Why can't I control myself? When hot coffee spilled on her palm, I wanted to aid her, but I didn't. Why is this happening to me? I can't hate that girl, even if I wanted to."

Evan didn't feel like working; he attempted to relax, but it didn't work. He was experiencing a peculiar restlessness.

He goes to his cabin's glass window, which provides a view of the entire office. He sees Bella in her cabin, holding a file. Despite her suffering, she continued to work. She didn't have time to apply any ointment or bandage it.

Evan gets the first aid box from his drawer, pulls out the ointment and bandage, and walks towards Bella 's cabin. He opens the door to her cabin and enters. Bella is shocked to see him.

Evan holds Bella 's hand, applies ointment, and bandages it. He notices his other bandaged wrist. Bella stared at him for a while, not understanding what his problem was. He becomes upset with her for a brief period of time. At other times, he looks after her.

Evan said," There is no need to ponder too much; I do not want you to appear to be impoverished in front of others in order to earn sympathy so that you can execute your job correctly. That is why I did this, understand? Now, concentrate on your work."

He left, and she was silent.

Bella was cutting vegetables in the kitchen when her finger was cut and bled. She screamed in pain. when Adrian hears her voice. He rushes over and grabs her hand in his lips, sucking her finger seductively, making her disgusted and uncomfortable.

Bella releases her hand from his grip and attempts to move it away from him, but he does not let go and clutches her hand tightly. They were both glancing at each other before Evan entered.

Evan said, “what happened?"

Adrian said, “Your wife unintentionally cut her finger. I was helping her, right? Sister-in-law."

Bella nodded.

Evan gets closer to his wife and examines her cut finger.

"Baby, work carefully; let me bandage your finger." he said

Bella smiles.

Adrian leaves, and Evan gives the wrap to Bella 's finger.

Evan and Bella meet each other's eyes. Evan smiles at Bella. He carefully turns his face toward his wife. Their faces were several inches apart. Following this, he cups his wife's face and kisses her, and Bella reciprocates.

Both of them become lost in the kiss. Evan gets Bella to sit on the counter and stands between her legs. Along with this, they were constantly kissing each other, but someone was watching from a distance.

He was quite envious after seeing this. Adrian couldn't bear the sight of both of them together; he had to somehow separate them, so he shouted out to his brother without hesitation. Evan moves away from Bella  .

" I forgot we weren't alone in this house. Sorry, my love," he said.

"No problem; we can finish the night." she said

"Yes, it is my wife's wish, and it is my responsibility to fulfill it."

Both smile.

Evan said, "What's the issue, take? Why were you calling me?" Adrian said," I was seeking a file, and I found it." Evan said,"Okay." Evan was about to leave when he received a phone call. Evan did not have time to tell Bella since he had an important meeting and needed to leave for the office right away. Adrian smiles as Evan walks away.

Bella was washing utensils in the kitchen with her full attention on the sink when she felt someone place his hand on her waist and gently caress her hands. She thinks it's her husband.

That's why she doesn't pay much attention to it, but gradually that hand starts creeping from her waist to her breast, then she holds the hand and talks.

"I told you we'd do it all at night." She turns to say this, and her eyes widen since it is her brother-in-law, not her husband.

She hurriedly pushes Adrian aside and moves away from him.

"How dare you touch me? What were you doing with me?" she said.

Adrian: Don't be so innocent; I know you were having fun as well, which is why you've been silent till now.

She slapped him hard. I've been silent till now, but that doesn't mean I'll continue to tolerate whatever you do. Okay, I'll surely talk to your brother about it; you're pushing your limits.

Adrian said,"Do you think my brother will believe all of your nonsense? Believe me, Bella; my brother trusts me more than you; he will only believe what I tell him if I go ahead and tell him right now that your wife is seducing me. Believe me, he leans toward her, whispers to her that he will only trust me, and then walks away."

Bella is astonished to hear from him, but she knows her husband loves her deeply and will not believe anything. Evan had great faith in Bella and was certain of it.
