Kai:

“Mama,” I said, smiling as I walked inside the house, wrapping my arms around her, pulling her to my chest. She smiled, hugging me back.

I kissed the crown of her head, letting my lips linger there for a few seconds before pulling away to look at her. Rustem and Yelena stood a step back behind mom, looking at Irina who stood behind me.

“How are you, son?” Mom asked, smiling at me. She put her hand on my cheek, smiling when she saw me being calm.

“I am fine, mama. How are you? How’s things?” I asked, and she smiled.

“We are all fine. We were waiting for your arrival.” She said, and I kissed her forehead before taking a step back. I nodded at Irina, and though she kept her stance, mom’s smile almost immediately faded, making me shake my head.

“My wife, Irina.” I said, taking Irina’s hand. She looked up at me, and I ran my finger over her thumb, assuring her that things were going to be okay.
