Chapter 29

Leah POV

We stepped through the front door of the mansion, my heart heavy with disappointment. I had returned with Evelyn, hopeful that Connor would come back after leaving but he never did.

He came at first to take me and stood up to leave.

Evelyn had asked him to come back so we could leave together but he refused. I was crestfallen, and tried to hide my disappointment during the journey back.

As I entered the familiar hallway, I couldn't help but shake from the tension in the air. My footsteps were muted as I walked. My mood was somber and I longed for a moment of peace without thinking about anyone but myself.

A moment where I could just live as me and no one else.

“We're here, Luna,” Evelyn announced as I passed my room. I stopped, whispered my gratitude and entered my room.

My eyes caught the magic book on the bed and I gasped and quickly closed the door before Evelyn could see it. I picked it up and went to the small hole at the back of my bed where I had hidden the
