Chapter 20

SIX YEARS AGO

RHYS

Rae picked up a book on the side table next to the sofa bed and flipped through a few pages.

“You read?”

“Not much else to do in the middle of a forest,” I answered.

I was still painfully hard, and she could see it. But she chose to walk around the room inspecting the few things I had accumulated in the past month. Now that the time had come, Rae was nervous.

“Why do you live alone? Were you exiled?”

She put the book down and moved on to the weapons I had against the wall near the door.

"I was never part of a pack. My parents preferred to live free."

I followed her slowly. It was almost like we were playing a game of cat and mouse, only she was going to let me catch her. Her lust was so thick in the air that I could taste it.

"Live free. I like that," Rae mused.

The storm was raging outside, but I could hear her accelerated heartbeat.

The reckless woman was gone, replaced by the skittish one who had probably realised she had bitten off more than she could chew. S
