26. Life Is Not A Fairytale

Lucy’s POV

Annie refused to go to the hospital with me, even though I wanted to. She is worried that Jane will always have more power over her, no matter how hard she fights.

I felt bad for her, so I hugged her tight and whispered, "I'm sorry, Annie."

Annie gave me a silent nod, and I stared at her battered face; it was as if the trauma she suffered left her unable to work for days. I felt so bad for her, and I felt hopeless.

She took a deep breath and said, "Lucy, I don't want to see you again. I no longer want to be involved in your personal life. I have a daughter who needs me. I hope you understand."

Then I slowly let go of her hand, sad that I had lost another friend. Somehow, I feel like I was meant to be alone all my life.

She shut the door behind her, and I turned my back, overcome with sadness at everything.
