Chapter 1: Hailey

In the early hours of the morning on the 5th of September 2001 just before daybreak, the voice of a woman could be heard down the hallway of the mansion of the Adams family. The woman was Janet Adams, she was in labour about to give birth in her room. Normally, they would have gone to the hospital but this was no normal child birth.

It was the birth of a werewolf and werewolf births were always very violent, during the births the unborn werewolves would tear through the mothers womb by clawing their through but due to the healing factor possessed by werewolves, the mothers would survive and completely heal up after. Going to a hospital would only reveal the fact that they were wolves and they would only be putting themselves in danger of being attacked by hunters.

The child was Hailey Adams and she was the first child of Janet and George. The Adams family where one of the last surviving families of werewolves after countless wars between the hunters over many generations which caused great losses on both sides.

Young werewolves are not allowed to intermingle with humans until they were trained properly and had mastered their abilities fully to prevent them from revealing themselves.

So Hailey was home schooled through out till she turned 16. That was when she was allowed to attend college, by them she had full control of her shape shifting abilities. After she finished from college, she decided to leave Philadelphia her home town in Pennsylvania which she had lived in her whole life to move to Manhattan in New York. Until now, she had not travelled out of Philadelphia.

After what seemed to be a long night, it was finally dawn. It was the long awaited day which had at last come to reality.

“So it is finally happening,” she says softly to herself as she sat up on her bed and smiled for a bit. Indeed she was happy and at the same time she was really nervous because she was going to a new place and for the first time she was going to mingle with humans. Hearing the chirps of the birds on the trees across the street and car horns blaring from the neighbourhood, she turned a little to her left and reached out for her phone by the side of the bed, giving it a little tap so as to enable the screen light up.

“Oh my God it is 7:30 already?, I must have overslept,” she exclaimed as she jumped up from her bed and grabbed her toothbrush.

“I must have had a lot to drink yesterday,” she pondered to herself.

she had gone out with her friends the previous night and had a bit too much whisky at the club, letting the moment take over, with the loud pounding music she danced all through the night, but it was definitely worth it because that would be the last outing she was going to be having with her bestie’s Amanda Walker and Catherine Lane, they where her cousins and the only friends that Hailey Adams had.

By now it was about some minutes to 8 am, Hailey Adams was trying to get dressed and at the same time she stuffed some wheat flour bread in her mouth, trying to get something to eat just before she would leave for the airport. Her mom volunteered to drive her down to the airport, luckily they got there on time but her flight was delayed due to weather conditions so she had to wait for a few hours.

While at the terminal, she watched as people swamped the airport and couldn’t believe the number of passengers that travelled in a day at the airport, then her flight was finally called, so she walked down the airport and just before she got to the ticket check point, her belongings where examined properly under an x-ray machine to prevent passengers from concealing weapons or smuggling drugs.

The routines where a little bit weird because it was her first time travelling by air. After this, her tickets where verified and she was all good to go. Once she stepped through the doors of the plane Hailey noticed the beautiful white leather interior of the plane. She took a few steps down the plane to her sit which was just by the window.

As she sat patiently, looking at the really tall aviation tower that controlled all the flights at the airport and watched as other flights took off and arrived at the terminal, she could only think of how it would feel to fly in an aeroplane.

Then she caught the glimpse of a young tall handsome man dressed in a well fitted black tuxedo suit walking down the plane, coincidentally he sat beside her. When Hailey saw him and caught his scent, she felt a little bit aroused and attracted to him. That was the first time she was feeling like that about a guy, so she did not really understand what she felt at that time, his presence made her increasingly nervous.

“What a pleasant view you have there,” In his deep masculine voice as he gestured towards the window,

“it is my first time on an aeroplane so I just wanted to enjoy the view,” with a gentle smile on her face she replied softly.

Hailey told him how nervous she was being on the plane, but he assured her of how breath taking the journey would be once the flight takes off, and then the voice of the pilot could be heard through the speakers urging the passengers to strap their seat belts on as the flight was about to take off.

As the plane began to taxi the runway it accelerated, increasing in speed and Hailey watched the asphalt road which seemed to be running along side the aeroplane until it lifted up into the air.

Once the flight was airborne, Hailey noticed a feeling of total emptiness, what the scientists would call weightlessness. Looking confused,

“is this normal?” she asked Gabriel Christianson the hunk of a guy who had joined her earlier,

“yes dear, it is absolutely normal,” he replied with an assuring smile on his face.

She looked out the window and saw as people and buildings became smaller and smaller in size as the aeroplane increased in altitude, until the people disappeared and houses where like ants. A few minutes after take off they were at cruising speed and the air hostesses resumed attending to the passengers.

After what seemed to be a long pause, Gabriel Christianson was curious and asked her why she was travelling to Manhattan. She told him that she had gotten a job as a secretary in a bank firm. They had a nice conversation throughout the course of the flight and when they arrived at Manhattan, Gabriel asked for her contact so that they would keep in touch with each other.
