Chapter 4

Levana's POV

We walked to my room and she helped me select a dress that I had never won before. It was the dress she had gotten me on my birthday. I never wore it that day because I knew it was not the occasion for it. It was just too perfect.

It was a short green gown with gold at the top. I quickly put it on and she gushed at the sight of me. I smiled at her and moved to stand in front of my oval shaped mirror. The green dress brought out my eye color—which was emerald.

Sarah decided letting my hair fall on my shoulders was best so when I looked at the mirror, I couldn't agree more.

I looked like an angel. A soft smile made its way to my lips, seeing her shocked expression.

“Girl, you are gorgeous! See how you pulled this dress off like a goddess. Woah, I can't wait to see heads turn in your direction tonight.”

I chuckled softly, “ You are exaggerating right now and you know it. I don't look as beautiful as you.”

“You know that's the truth, Levana .”

I shook my head and wore a pair of matching green sandals before I entwined my arms with Sarah, and went down stairs.

Music played in the background and Sarah moved her body to the rhythm of the song. We watched others either chatting or dancing with their partners.

Some wolves from the other packs approached us but I shook my head, refusing to dance with any of them. I wanted to keep my first dance for Alpha Alessandro , and my eyes registered on him at that moment.

He watched me with a frown on his face and all the hopes I had immediately vanished. Wasn't he happy to know that we were mates? Was he going to reject me? I swallowed a gulp and took in a deep breath to control my raging nerves.

Sarah tugged at my arm but I pulled away from her, not wanting to be distracted from any other person other than my mate.

Soon, a lot of people noticed the tension between us and I suddenly began to hear hateful murmurings from other she-wolves.

Alpha Alessandro stood rigid with his frown deepening. I took a step towards him then another, until I was completely standing before him.

“Mate.”

I let the word escape my lips, causing everyone to shout in astonishment. I didn't let them deter me, so I focused only on my mate.

“We cannot be mates. The moon goddess must have made a mistake of pairing us both.” He roared bitterly.

Tears filled my eyes and I instinctively covered my tummy with my hand, as though that act was enough to pull me out of my shame.

He couldn't mean what he said right? Not after what happened between us. Looking at him, it was as though he was daring me to mention that night. I gulped hard and nodded my head resolutely.

“Why, Alpha? Why are you rejecting me?” I knew what it was but I still needed to hear the words from his mouth.

I fisted my hands together, rage building up within me as I waited for his explanation.

“You do not have a wolf so that makes you a human. As an Alpha, I cannot mate with a human. I need a Luna who would be my strength and not my weakness. So I, Alpha Alessandro Adler, of the Silver moon pack, reject Levana McKenna as my mate.”

I felt hot all over. For a second I couldn't breathe. I felt like someone was choking me up…and at that moment I knew I lost.

Before I could even ponder on what happened, a hot slap shot across my face and it was from a lady, I had seen her with the Alpha twice but I don't know who she is.

“Accept the rejection now, you bloody slime." She shot at me.

“I- I can't, Alpha Alessandro is supposed to be my mate." I cried out, my hands rubbing my face.

She grabbed my arm and pressed me, I saw Sarah move towards me in defense.

“Leave her alone!" She shouted.

“Tell your friend to accept the rejection. She's wolf-less and not fit enough to be our Luna. Tell her to accept the rejection or I'll strangle her here.`` The lady cried out, her nails digging into my skin.

Tears streamed down my face as everyone watched the drama.

“Levana , accept the rejection now!” Alpha Alessandro used his Alpha's command on me, and the pain that I was feeling multiplied. That was how powerful an alpha command was. It makes one do things they didn't want to, and the pain that comes with it, could possibly kill.

I can do this.

I took a deep breath and held his gaze. “I, Levana Mckenna, accept your rejection.”

I fell to the ground just as I heard the mate bond snap.

Beta had been secretly monitoring my unexplained blackouts with a sense of concern and understanding. His decision to keep this information to himself assures me of his loyalty and compassion. Even though I had been absent minded during the meeting, I still remembered that the blood moon day was tonight.

Alessandro POV

As the Alpha of the pack, I had to ensure that everything was in place - decoration, games, food, drinks, everything and most importantly, it's on that day I will know if the goddess truly gifted me or maybe blessed me with a cursed woofless mate. It better not be true. I mean, I deserve to have a strong Luna that will stand by me.

The howl of the moon pierced the night air, sending shivers down my spine. I felt the call deep within my bones, drawing me out into the moonlit night and I knew that It was time to know if Ianthie was truly my destined mate.

My nose led me through the crowd and I didn't stop weaving my way through until I caught a scent that made my heart race. She stood before me, beautiful, soft and calm and her eyes sparkled as she spoke.

Mate.

A rush of disappointment enveloped me. The sound of those words falling from her cracking voice and trembling lips was enough to make me lose it.

This was not what I had expected, not what I had been hoping for all these years. How could it be that my chosen mate was wolf less?

I took one last stare into her eyes as my stone cold face flashed in disgust as I took a step back. "I'm sorry, I can't accept you as my mate, '' I whispered. The words felt heavier than the sword on my lips but what more could I have said?

My heart broke into a million pieces as I watched her withdraw - her heart threatening to jump out of its chambers. Her eyes, once glittering with high expectati

ons and longing, now held a shadow of sadness that seemed to engrave her very being.
