On their drive back to the headquarters, Detective Ian Murray and William were quiet, each absorbed in thought. Between their ears, the case was moving full speed ahead.
“Want me to make us coffee, Ian?” William asked as they were about to get settle down.
“Yes please, no sugar,” replied Ian.
He put his legs up on the desk, turned on the news programme on TV, relaxed and expected nothing more from the day.
The next ten minutes changed that.
He picked up the telephone on the first ring and his eyes rolled towards the ceiling when he heard the homicide chief’s dark voice.
“I received a call from the superintendent, Ian, I don’t know how he found out about you snooping around. He said that he sees no reason why you should dig deeper into this case.”
