Up from a long slumber

I slowly opened my eyes, the harsh white light of the hospital room stinging my vision. As my gaze adjusted, I saw familiar faces surrounding my bed. My father, Adam, Gina, and my best friends Liah and Sarah were all there.

Sarah shook her head with a concerned smile. "Lyra, it's like the hundredth time you're waking up in a hospital," she said, her relief evident in her voice. "But we're so glad you're okay."

I blinked, trying to piece together what had happened. "What happened? Why am I here?" I asked, feeling a dull ache in my body.

Liah leaned forward, his voice filled with concern. "You were unconscious for two days, Lyra," she explained, her eyes reflecting worry. "Adam brought you here from the warehouse, after Norman had tried to kill you by draining out all of your blood. It was touch and go for a while, but you're going to be okay."
