chapter thirty-five

Tyler POV

Helpless. That was exactly how I felt the moment I saw her being taken away by the nurses, completely dazed.

Emily kept her hands on her belly and muttered something indistinguishable. This scene felt like taking another stab in the stomach, like kicks destroying the moment we were having.

I felt an indescribable anguish; it was the worst of feelings. Just thinking about Emily suffering was suffocating, and the most terrible part was what I felt just imagining that she might lose our daughter. And the worst of all was that it would be my fault.

I tried to get up despite all the burning pains coursing through my muscles. A nurse came to me with a disapproving look and gently pushed me back onto the bed.

"I need to see her!" I said, almost failing with my voice while holding back tears.

"She'll be okay, don't worry. She's in good hands," she said, injecting some liquid into the tube delivering medication to my body.
