SERENITY DAY

KATRINA

Thankfully—as I had predicted—it was just a thirty-minute walk and the outskirts of wolf territories were safer but the children were exhausted. Perhaps, I spoiled them too much.

‘That’s an understatement. You always take them everywhere with a car and they only ever actually walk in the house.’

‘Isn’t that what most parents do?’

‘Not pups, Katrina.’

I remembered the words of protection Cannon told me. Though I still despised the guy, if not for him, I would’ve been manhandled so much as a s*x slave that I may have lost my triplets. My stomach knotted, why was I living if not for them?

The forest was the same as I left it six years ago. There were the berries, the tall trees that never seemed to stop growing, beautiful flowers and shrubs, animal sounds that were melodious to the ear… It was a dream during the day but on the night I escaped, I felt like Snow White when she was running away from the huntsman in the Black Forest.

‘Yeah, I remember that,’ Melora laughed.
