She's A Little Different

“That’s what you got wrong, Lina. You are my responsibility. After all, you are my niece.”

She slowly blinked, her brain was stuck up in the process of what Briare said. “Niece?” Her voice crocked. How did she become Briare's niece when it doesn't look like he has Asian blood? Her heart thumped painfully in her chest for she remembered when she was young, kids in the neighborhood used to tease her as a half-mixed. When she became an adult, people just shrugged off her looks that were a bit different from others as a result of an operation. She didn’t get any. She didn’t go under a knife but she didn’t correct those wrong assumptions because it would be more complicated to explain how she doesn’t really look so Asian when both of her parents are.

Her gaze slowly drifted to Vanessa who was sitting next to Briare. She wanted to see any indication that Briare was just joking but Vanessa was wearing her poker face.
