‘I never like you.’ Those four words were like a dull knife that kept on stabbing Lina in the chest as she kept on repeating those words in her head. She knew that her mother didn’t like her growing up, however, it was the first time that her mother told her verbally that she never liked her—and despite knowing the fact all her life, hearing them from her mother’s mouth still hurt.
She slowly lowered herself to the ground. Sitting next to her mother but making sure to put enough distance between them.
“I was younger than you when I met your father,” she said, her eyes glued in the distance, past behind the tall trees as if she was seeing the story she was telling her daughter behind those trees. “I was doing what other women my age were doing—finding a suitable husband.” A smile ghosted her lips as if she was remembering something fun and exciting. “I met your father at one of the parties my friend&rsquo
“Where are we going?” She whispered against Eon’s arm as they followed the man that according to Eon could answer her questions.Eon tightened his grip on her hand. “Don’t worry. It’s fine,” he whispered back.Lina exhaled a big sigh of relief. She walked in silence next to Eon as they followed the man in the maze of hallways in this old castle that Lina felt like they were walking to a dungeon because they had been walking for such a long time. She had cried her heart out in the garden inside Eon’s strong arms while some nurses took her mother away. She was crying and screaming her name, cursing her for all the terrible things that happened in her life. Her hand clasped tighter around Eon’s arm and she pressed her side closer to him that he glanced over his shoulder, his brows knitting as he looked at Lina, plastering herself to his side. He wasn’t complaining but he was worried if she was overt
Lina watched the side mirror, getting smaller and smaller behind them as they drove away. And a certain longing to return to it settled in her heart. Maybe in the future, she uttered inwardly.“Are you fine with the fact that your mother is being kept there?”Lina tore her eyes away from the side mirror when she heard Eon’s question. She didn’t answer his question but watched his handsome side profile as he drove. “I think keeping her there is a form of kindness.” She said after a while.Eon nodded. She’s right because if her mother wasn’t taken to that castle, she would be inside an asylum. With the way she acted towards Lina, it’s clear that she can’t live in the outside world anymore. She was too broken to function in the normal society.“She’s full of anger and hate that any form of explanation would be useless to her.” She sighed and looked outside the car’s window. &
“If I am also your kind, why don’t I have this consciousness that you are talking about?”Eon stopped the car into a full stop. “That’s why I’m taking you back home to my father’s pack. Someone could help you there to answer your questions or we could reach out to Briare?” He said the name in a tone that didn’t think calling Briare was a good idea.Lina went quiet. There is no reason for her now to not believe what Briare and Brigette were claiming, however, she still wasn’t comfortable discussing things with them. “I want to know more about me before I’ll talk to them.” She said after a while.“It’s your call.” Eon took her hand again in his and this time even when she tried to pull it away from him, he didn’t let go until they reached the tarmac where Eon’s private plane was waiting. They had to fly to Maine and then took the long drive home
“Do you want to be the next Alpha?”Eon gazed at Lina’s eyes full of questions and he reached for her head and ruffled her hair. He smiled. “No, we aren’t born as puppies.” He shook his head in disbelief.Lina pressed her lips together, rolling her eyes. Eon clearly refused to answer her question by answering one of the stupid questions on her list. She didn’t believe in that question either. She just put it there on a whim. But the jerk was having a good time with it, laughing his ass off. He’s so annoying, especially when he laughed and the corner of his eyes crinkled and the sound that came out of his mouth sounded like a melodic rhythm. She crossed her arms over her chest in annoyance with the unfairness of life. Why does she always fall in love with a man that can never be hers? She swallowed the bitter smile before it escaped her lips.“It would be nice to have a puppy,” she mumbled under her brea
When the helicopter landed in the helipad made in the middle of the cleared area that was surrounded with container vans that were turned into sleeping quarters and offices. A black SUV was waiting for them. Eon asked the driver to step out of the car, opened the passenger door for Lina before taking the driver seat.Lina remained quiet and just observed everything. She noticed there were only men working around Eon. The only woman she had met was the cabin attendant. She wondered if it was Eon’s choice to only have men employees. The drive to their accommodation didn’t take long. The cabin was just within the area and Lina didn’t have much expectation with it since all she saw were container vans. She was expecting that they would also stay in one. However, when the SUV turned into a cemented road, lined with fire trees on both sides, she straightened up from her seat and gawked as she watched the cabin come into view. The cabin was made of wood with
A soft humming deep inside her core reverberated in her ears, the world went still as she stared at Eon’s eyes.“Mine,” he growled, pulling her close. His arms circled around her small frame as his lips came crashing, capturing her lips into a breath-stopping kiss.Lina didn’t understand what was happening. Her whole being just went with the flow. She felt like she was a river that took so many twists and turns and finally found her way to the ocean. She melted in Eon’s arms, tip-toeing from the floor, she opened her mouth to accept his kiss. She even slid her finger into Eon’s hair, silently urging him to kiss her more.Eon possessively held Lina into his arms as if at any given moment, someone would take her away from him. He delved his tongue into her mouth without mercy. He wanted to brand her as his. His hungry mouth left her mouth and traced the length of her neck to the delicious curve of her collarbone, sucking and lic
“Galan,” she whispered with awe. She caressed the wolf’s head who snorted at her. “You’re so handsome.” She bent down and stared at Galan’s pair of black eyes with a speck of gold and grinned. “Thank you for chasing my nightmares away.”Galan stepped back, shook his body and Lina screamed, covering her eyes. “Do you really have to change now?” She peeked through the gaps of her fingers and saw Eon standing from the ground, stark naked. He walked to the huge stone where his backpack was and put on his change of clothes.Lina wanted to see his wolf and how he would shift, hence, they were in the middle of the forest where he shifted and let his wolf out.“When you said you wanted to see my wolf,” he said as he pulled his shirt down, “you didn’t say about treating my wolf as if it’s a freaking dog!”“And how should I treat your wolf?” She creased
Lina hugged Eon’s wolf back as it dashed around in the forest, leaving a hurricane of dry leaves and twigs behind. Eon insisted on doing this every day to have her acquainted with nature and the wild. At first, Lina refused to do it because she was still feeling down that she has no urge to shift but when she experienced the thrill of running around while riding Eon’s wolf, it became an everyday routine for them. Their favorite destination was the cliff that offers an unobstructed view of the sunset. When they arrived at the cliff, Galan lay down on his four to let Lina off his back, then she dropped the backpack behind a huge boulder where Galan hid to shift. She likes watching Eon naked but she finds it awkward to see him stark naked as a newborn babe every time he shifts.“Are you done?” She called him as she slowly climbed the boulder. She had been here countless times but she still gets the queasy feeling in her stomach whenever she sat on
