Chapter four

SEBASTIAN'S POV

I was wrong, Sarah’s the only irresponsible vampire in history. There's not one single reference of a member of the royal family leaving the kingdom. It's like none of my ancestors even anticipated an incident like this.

"Good going Sarah, there are better ways to punish me for not paying attention to you, this is just too much! I don't even know if you're dead or alive. Please come home."

A slight knock interrupted my monologue. Rhea? This feels weird and unexpected. I guess she's still our friend after all.

"I have something to tell you." I'm shocked. Rhea said more than three words to me. I'm getting kinda scared, is this about Sarah?

"Sure, come in and have a seat." She closed the door behind her and came in. I put down the books in my hand and sat in front of her. I stared at her as if trying to collect information from a book, I was trying to guess what she wanted to say. She rubbed her palms together and looked me straight in the eye. Her seriousness is scaring the shit out of me but I'm trying to keep my cool, the future king of a vampire kingdom can not afford to be scared of a serious conversation.

"Do you know where your sister is?". She asked but I assumed that was a rhetorical question and her way of opening this conversation so I didn't say anything in reply.

"Where can I find your sister?". She asked again rephrasing the question. Is this somehow part of a test or something, are they trying to test my patience as king or what? It just hit me, the test, I'm confined and can't even go out how did she manage to come in here undetected? Is this Rhea? I stood up from my seat and took a few steps backwards.

"Do you have an answer for me or not?" She asked with a different voice this time. The colour of her pupils changed to a blazing red and her hair started to move like it’s got a mind of its own. Unexplainable power oozed throughout the room putting everything out of place. She's not Rhea. What the hell is going on?

" Who are you?" I asked gathering all the courage in me I'm king after all.

She stared at me like a foreign object deliberately ignoring my question so I asked again, louder this time.

"I said who the fuck are you? and what have you done with Rhea?"

"That's her name? For someone so smart and daring I thought she'd have a better name." She said laughing hysterically sending chills down my spine. I hope it's not what I'm thinking, she couldn't have, there's no way she... did she kill Rhea? I'm not exactly fond of the little witch but I'm sure as hell I don't want her dead.

"I said who the fuck are you?" I yelled, anger seeping into my voice. I don't know who the fuck this woman is but she's got some guts coming in her and spewing this nonsense.

"Now that I think of it, you're just like your father, you're both dumb and impulsive. I guess all men are." She said now pacing around the room slowly while playing with her nails that are unusually long and black. I don't see Rhea enough to know if those were what her nails looked like but this woman pacing my room sure found it interesting.

I was losing patience. I opened my mouth to yell at her again but I felt a lump in my throat.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you." She said and wiggled her index finger in warning.

I was shocked and it was starting to show in my expression. Whoever she is, she is powerful and I know it. I can feel it.

She saw the look on my face and a smile tugged at the side of her mouth. She's aware of the effect she has on me.

"You were not of much use but I won't discard you just yet. You might come in handy." She said and with that, she was gone so was the lump in my throat.

"What in the world is she? How does she know my father? Have they met before? What does this mean? will she be a threat to the kingdom? How do I resolve this? most importantly, why in hell is she looking for Sarah?".

SARAH'S POV

It's almost dawn. It's almost time for me to leave. I don't have anywhere and I'm sure as hell He won't let me stay here. Should I leave before they come for me? At least that way I won't have to answer the millions of questions they probably have piled up for me. I wouldn't know what to say even If I tried. Should I just use my powers and make them let me stay? I'm so torn right now.

I lay on the soft sheets of my bed and continued to argue in my head. I didn't realise it was morning until I heard a knock on the door. I guess running away is out of the options.

I opened the door and my eyes met Devin's. We almost bumped into each other because while I was trying to step out of the room, he was trying to step in. We chuckled awkwardly and both took two steps back. I raised my head again to meet his face. It was dark yesterday so I didn't notice the colour of his eyes. They're hazel, not a very common eye colour where I come from. He's the first hazel-eyes man I've met or person as a matter of fact. And his hair, it's beautiful. Almost- curly strands laid lazily on his forehead making only part of his face visible. His lips too... Oh for fuck's sake, I need to get a grip of myself. What am I doing analysing this man's amazing facial features?

"Sleep well?" He asked finally breaking the weird silence.

"Yes. You?"

"Not really?"

"Oh sorry," I replied trying hard not to ask why but he tells me anyway.

"I have insomnia so I couldn't sleep a wink."

"You have what?"

"Insomnia, you know, it's a thing you have that makes you have that keeps you awake when you should be sleeping."

He sucks at explaining but I think I understand what he's saying.

"Yeah, yeah I know sorry about that."

"It's fine, everybody gets it once in a while."

No, they don't!. "yeah I know. "No, I don't know. It's the first time I've heard of it. I have to figure something out fast.

We are in the middle of breakfast and so far no one has mentioned anything about me leaving maybe they don't mind me staying.

"So, where do your parents live?" Derek finally asked.

"You couldn't let her finish her meal?" Devin shot back.

"We were gonna have to ask eventually?" Derek mumbled almost inaudibly.

"It couldn't be after the meal?" Devin persisted.

"I'm sorry okay? We'll ask after the meal." he said unapologetically throwing daggers with his eyes.

The meal was eventually over. No matter how hard I tried to slow it down, it still came to an end.

I tried to slip back into my room but Derek was determined to get me out of his house today.

"Hey Sarah, let's talk."
