Chapter 3;

    (After 16 years)

    *Desire's POV;*

"Doctor Almonte a patient needs you!" A nurse ran towards my direction while I'm having a sip of coffee in my office. She's panting and I could see how nervous she is right now.

"Calm down, take deep breathes and relax. I will attend to that patient right away," I told her. She sits on the couch and started to breathe in and out just like what I told her.

I put on my white coat and grabbed my stethoscope. Then I hurriedly run towards the direction of the emergency room. I could see my fellow doctors and some nurses running as well. We have a lot of patients for today and we must attend to all of them and do our best to save their lives no matter how small the chances are.

After running for a few minutes, I finally reached the E.R. I hurriedly opened the door and started to check on the patient that I must attend to.

"Doctor Almonte finally you're here! We really don't know what to do with this patient!" one of the nurses told me.

"What happened to him?" I asked them while still checking the vital signs of the patient. He's not awake and his lips were already pale.

"He had a heart attack this morning," one of the nurses explained.

"We need to perform CPR!" I shouted after checking the patient's pulse.

"Hand me the cardiac defibrillator!" I ordered one of the nurses. She hurriedly run to follow my command.

"Here doctor!" she said as she hands me the device. I quickly took it from her while silently praying that I will be able to save another life for today.

                 "Charge it to 150!"

                  "Yes doctor!"

"One, two, three!"  I counted before I put the electrodes on the patient's chest to revive his heartbeat.

"His heartbeat is not improving," one of the nurses who assisted me today said nervously.

"One, two, three!" I put the electrodes on the patients chest once again, but his heartbeat is still not improving.

"Come on you have to live!" I begged him. Every time I have patients I always try my best to save them. No matter how difficult and tiring it is, I will never give up. That's how determined I am!  I chose to be a doctor to save lives and that's I'm going to do right now. I will save the life of this patient!

I repeated the process of doing CPR and it was hard for me to deny the fact that I'm starting to feel nervous. I'm already panting and I could feel my sweat dripping.

"Doc, I think it's impossible for us to revive him," a nurse told me. But I don't want to stop and lose hope! There's this one thing that pushes me to save this patient's life. He might have a family waiting for him to recover. I don't wish to see a child crying because she lost his father at such a very young age. I've been there and I know how painful it is to be in that situation.

At the age of four I became an orphan, luckily my grandpa took very good care of me. And that's one thing I'm grateful for. If not for him, I might be living in our old home with my nanny for the past 16 years. I decided to be a doctor because I want to help people, to save lives in the best way I could.

"No! We should hold on to the tiny hope we have now! He's still breathing and that's the only hope we have. As long as he continues to do that and fight for his life, then we will never stop doing our best to save him!" I told them. I'm not going to give up. They all nodded in response and did their best to assist me.

Then, finally after doing the CPR for the seventh time the patient's heartbeat went back to normal.

"Thank goodness! We did it!" I said with glee. I heaved a deep sigh of relief and started to wipe my sweat.

"We did it!" everyone cheered happily. Finally, we saved another life!

"Congratulations doc!" they all said in unison.

"No! Congratulations to us, we all did our best to save  him," I said with a smile. I did not save this patient alone, this is a teamwork!

After successfully saving another patient, I went back to my office to take a few minute rest before going home.

"Doc everyone is talking about you!" my assistant said happily as soon as I entered my office. I smiled at her while removing my white coat.

"It's my job Patricia, no need to talk about it. I'm happy I was able to save a life," I explained to her.

"But doc, what you did back there is really amazing!"

"Patricia, you better pack your things our job is done for today. It's time to go home and rest," I told her. She pouts but still did what I told her to do. My 24 hours duty for today is done and it's time for me to take some rest.

"Welcome home young lady!" few of our maids greeted me as soon as I entered the door of our mansion.

"Thank you," I answered them with a smile. They hurriedly get my things and bring it to my room upstairs.

The hospital where I was working is just a few miles away from here so it wasn't a long drive for me.

"My favorite doctor is finally here!" nanny Ysang said with a smile on her face. I chuckled and gave her a tight hug. She hugged back and started brushing my hair with her finger tips.

"Nanny, I'm no longer a baby!" I complained. She chuckled and pinched my nose.

"You will forever be my baby." Then we both started laughing like there's no tomorrow.

"Geez nanny! It sounds gross!" I told her.

"Who said it's gross? It's what they called nanny's love!"

"Okay then, it's nanny's love," I answered accepting defeat.

"Very good!" she said with a big smile on her face. "By the way, before I forgot I prepared a delicious lunch for you."

"Wow! Thank you nanny!" I said happily "I will just take a shower then we will eat lunch together nanny," I told her before I hurriedly run upstairs.

I took a quick shower and dry myself using a towel. I put on a simple pink cotton shorts and white crop top. I comb my hair and did not bother to dry it using a hair dryer. I just tied it into a messy bun and then I wear my favorite white slippers.

I hurriedly walk down stairs because I'm already hungry and I'm excited to taste the food nanny prepared for me. Halfway to the dining room, I bump into my uncle Chase's nanny.

"Oh, it seems like you're already home! You really know how to destroy the moment," she said as if trying to piss me. But sorry for her because I'm not in the mood to listen to her nonsense words.

I walked pass her but she grabbed my hand and made me face her. Geez this annoying nanny! She's acting like she's the boss here and I am just her servant!

"Don't turn your back on me, spoiled brat!" she said emphasizing the word 'spoiled brat'. I smirked then showed her a blank expression.

"Seriously? Let me tell you a very short story nanny Abby," I told her emphasizing the word 'nanny'. She glared at me, but I don't care. She needs to know her place in this house!

"As far as I know I am the granddaughter of Giovanni Almonte and you are just my uncle's nanny. Among the two of us I am way more superior than you. So you don't have the right to block my way, stop me from doing things and most importantly you have to talk to me nicely. Or to make it short, you have to respect me!" I could see how her face turned pale after hearing my words.

Serves her right! God knows how I badly want to stop myself from being rude to her but she keeps on pushing me to disrespect her.

She did not manage to say even a single word. I walked pass her and headed to the dining room where my nanny is waiting.

"What took you so long?" she asked in a confused manner.

"Well, nanny Abby just tried to piss me," I explained after pulling a chair and I comfortably sat on it.

"That stupid hyena!" I laughed hard because of what she said.

"What did you just call her nanny?" I asked trying to stop myself from laughing so hard.

"Hyena, she deserves to be called that way because of her attitude. I will kick her ass off when I see her later," nanny said angrily. I chuckled and gave her a warm smile.

"No need to do that, I just had a heart to heart talk with her. And I'm pretty sure she already knows where to stand in this house."

"You really did that?" she asked in disbelief.

"Of course nanny. I'm trying my best to respect her but she's the one disrespecting me. And I already had enough of her attitude!" I answered.

"That's my girl!" nanny said proudly. "Remember who you are, and never let anyone step on you. It's okay to be nice but only on people who are nice to you as well. But for those who were trying to pull you down and take what's rightfully yours, you have to fight them. Never let them defeat you."

"Why are you telling me these things nanny?" It's the first time that she told me about those things.

"Because I want you to prepare and open your eyes for your enemies. Betrayal is just around the corners of this house," she explained.

"I don't get you? Why would anyone be my enemy and betray me?"

She moves closer to me and held my chin up. "Because you are Desire Aysé Almonte, an Almonte by blood and anyone would dream to be in your position. So you need to be careful."
