Chapter 4

    *Third Person's POV*

Giovanni went home with a smile on his wrinkled face. He managed to close the deal with one of his billionaire clients. He had been working hard for that deal for the past three weeks and now he finally managed to close it. One more successful business partnership with a big client and the future of his company will be secured.

"Congratulations on closing the deal dad," Chase congratulated him as soon as they stepped out of their cars.

"Thanks son, I just hope we could do the same thing with Kevin Villafuerte. I've been dying to have a business partnership with him but he keeps on declining my business proposals," the old man answered. Chase's face suddenly turned mad upon hearing what his father told him.

"That Kevin Villafuerte is a real pain in the ass! I've been hearing a lot of rumors saying that he's too picky when it comes to business transactions," he uttered. The old man chuckled and patted his son's shoulders.

"There's always a perfect timing for everything, son. All we have to do now is show him that he will not regret doing business with us. We should improve our company's performance more," Giovanni told his son. Chase just nodded as an answer, then they both started to walk inside their mansion.

They were greeted by their maids and butlers. Some even took their laptops and other office things from their hands and brought it inside their room.

"Is Desire home already?" Giovanni asked Yasemin that made Chase more mad. He hates to see his dad being so caring and loving to his grandchild. It annoys him so much!

"Yes master! She's in the kitchen right now helping her nanny prepare dinner," Yasemin answered politely.

"And who told you that you could just let her prepare dinner?" Chase shouted angrily at Yasemin. He's trying to act like a concerned uncle, but the truth is he hates the idea that Desire is cooking dinner and it would make his father adore her even more.

"Chase it's fine! Don't you think it's way much better for her to learn how to cook? Soon, she will be a married woman and she needs to prepare food for her family," his father told him.

"Yeah, I think you're right dad," he agreed with a fake smile plastered on his face.

"Grandpa you're home!" Desire came running towards their direction while wearing an apron. While the annoyed Chase just secretly rolled his eyes at her.

"My beautiful granddaughter," Giovanni said with glee. Then he and his grandchild embraced each other.

"I prepared dinner for us," Desire said proudly. She kissed her grandpa's cheeks and guided him towards the direction of the dining room.

The oldman sat comfortably on his usual seat, while Chase and Desire did the same. They sit opposite to each other.

"Wow! You prepared my favorite chicken caldereta!" Giovanni said with excitement.

"Yes grandpa, I specially prepared it for you," Desire said proudly.

"Thank you my princess!" Desire is smiling happily because of her grandfather's reaction. While Chase on the other hand can't help but frown because of jealousy.

"Dad, I think I should handle this Kevin Villafuerte," he suddenly stated to change the topic.

"Sure my son, from now on I appoint you on closing the deal with him," Giovanni answered while putting caldereta on his plate.

"Thank you dad." Chase smirked at Desire as if telling her that he's way much better than her when it comes to business.

While Desire just ignored him and tried focusing on her food.

After eating dinner Desire went directly to her room while Chase secretly sneaked out to have a secret meeting with his friend, Louie Fernandez the young C.E.O of Fernandez Chain of Hotels and Restaurants.

They met on a bar not far from the exclusive subdivision were the Almonte's mansion is located.

Loud music and the different smell of liquors combined with smelly perfumes greeted them as soon as they entered the facility. People were dancing their hearts out, some couples were making out on the couches and some girls flirting with some drunk men are the scene that welcomed them. They went straight to the bar counter and ordered tequila.

"Asking me to drink at this hour makes me think that you are having some heartaches bro," Louie teased him. Chase just glared at him before he drinks the tequila.

"Louie, you know I don't have much time for that. I'm more focused on inheriting the company alone!" he stated that made his friend laugh.

"But unfortunately, your niece is there to ruin your dreams," Louie said with a chuckle. Chase angrily slamed his fist on the bar counter causing them to catch attention.

"Chill bro, we might get kicked out of here," he whispered as if telling him to calm down.

"I don't care!" Chase shouted angrily. People started looking at them angrily.

"You're fuming mad bro, you could burn this whole place because of your anger," Louie joked at him.

"Before I burn this place, I must born my enemy first!" Chase said with full determination. Anger is visible in his eyes. He even closed both of his fists while saying those words.

"How will you do that?" Louie asked curiously. He does not want to be part of Chase's schemes but as a friend he wants to support him even if it's hard for him to do such evil things.

An evil smile formed in Chase's lips.

"You will help me get rid of her. Contact your men and tell them that I have a job for them. I will pay them millions if they will succeed!" Louie swallowed the lump on his throat after hearing his friend's words.

"I'm not a criminal for heaven's sake Chase!" he whispered, not wanting to be heard by anyone.

"Help me, or it's you that I'll get rid of!" Chase challenged him that made him more nervous. Looks like he has no other choice but to help him succeed on his plan.

"Lord please forgive me in advance," he mumbled.

When morning came, Desire was greeted by the sweet and aromatic smell of coffee and freshly cooked pancakes. She opened her eyes to see her nanny carefully putting her breakfast on the center table.

"Good morning nanny," she said while yawning. Her nanny smiled at her and walks towards her direction.

"Good morning my beautiful princess! I prepared pancakes and your favorite black coffee for breakfast," her nanny said proudly.

"Thank you nanny! You're so sweet!" she replied with happiness and excitement visible in her eyes.

"Where's grandpa and uncle Chase? Grandpa would be mad at me for not joining them for breakfast," she said while savoring the milky and sweet taste of the pancakes.

"They left early this morning, your uncle is in a hurry to attend to his breakfast meeting with a client while your grandpa have some papers to sign in his office," nanny Ysang stated.

"Grandpa is too old but he still keeps pressuring himself with work." She sighed and took a quick sip of her coffee.

"Your grandpa really loves his work and he's used to it ever since he was young. You know how much he strived for his company to be on top of all the food manufacturing businesses all over the world," nanny explained to her.

"You're right nanny. I've been thinking that maybe I should help him run the company but I'm pretty sure uncle Chase won't let that happen. Besides he deserves the company more than I do. I think I should focus more on the profession I chose."  Her nanny heaved a deep sigh that made her curious.

"What's the meaning of that deep sigh nanny?" she asked while laughing. Her nanny's face suddenly turned serious.

"Your uncle is selfish and cunning, I'm sure your grandpa have the same observation," she started.

"What do you mean nanny?"

"He's jealous because he sees you as his rival on your family's wealth. I'm not telling you this because I want you to hate him. But I'm telling you this because I care for you and I want you to protect yourself from his possible schemes," nanny Ysang continued.

"I don't think my uncle is capable of doing such things nanny," Desire replied to her while chuckling.

"Greed makes someone's heart evil. I have witnessed many people fighting their own blood relatives because of wealth and that's not impossible for Chase to do that to you as well, especially that you two are not really blood related," she warned her.

*********

Even at work, Desire is still bothered by what her nanny told her during breakfast. She knows exactly that Chase is not her uncle by blood but atleast, they grew up together with the thought that they are a family.

"Doctor Almonte, we have prepared everything that you will use for the medical mission," her assistant told her that made her go back to her senses.

"Okay, you rode on the van while I will just take my car," she ordered her.

"But doc, it would be better if you will ride on the van with us," her assistant insisted. "It's going to be a long drive and besides the road there is not as smooth as the roads here in the city."

"It's fine with me. A lot of nurses will participate, we won't fit in the van especially with all those medical equipments and medicines," she told her. Her assistant suddenly felt sad with her answer.

"What if we left other equipments here?" she suggested that made Desire mad.

"No! We will bring all of those. What if the one we left here is the most needed thing out there? What if there's someone waiting to be saved by it? How are you going to face your conscience knowing that you could've saved a life?"

Her assistant lowered down her gaze because of embarrassment.

"I'm sorry doc," she apologized. Desire just patted her shoulders and gave her a warm smile.

Patricia can't help but admire her boss for being selfless and for having a big heart to help others.
