Chapter 26

We found shade underneath an abnormally large maple and sat down. As we looked over to the cave, fear struck our hearts. This was really happening, no backing out now. In a few moments we would be on our feet again and in front of the entrance. I examined the opening of the cave and my eyes squinted in the sunlight as it seemed to move farther and farther away from me. Getting dizzy from the movement, I fell over on my side and closed my eyes.

When I opened my eyes again, Tony and Sylvia were kneeling at each side of my head. Sylvia took her hand and placed it palm down on my forehead as if to check my temperature. She caressed the bridge of my nose with her thumb as she smiled at me. I smiled back attempting to reassure her that I was fine. Tony smirked for a moment and then looked at the cave. He sighed before turning his eyes to the ground in deep thought.
