Chapter 68 - Brandon
We had been waiting for Dev, Xander, and Arya to arrive, but they just linked saying that they had gotten a text from Isaac’s phone and that they would be late. We decided to start the meeting without them.
We were in Meredith, Gael, and Hakeem’s suite at the top of the packhouse. It was tastefully decorated in the blues and silvers of the pack, with touches of gold and black. The sofas were large and plush, the furniture obviously new but homey. The walls were conspicuously bare of photos, but who has time to take family photos when there are wars to plan?
From my understanding, Gael and Hakeem had lived in what basically looked like a frat house before. Though Meredith was a practical woman, she pretty quickly got some decorators and painters in the room and changed it.

Arya reads the text messages to the group. Seth had given us information about a small encampment that was living on the Mani Pack territory, of which Zak is actually the alpha. And Arya is possibly an alpha now. Shit, this is confusing. Anyway, that encampment is there to keep an eye on us. They are also directing rogues to our territories. They must be trying to pull us out of our safety net here in the Diana Pack. Seth told us that they are going to set up more camps on other packlands, including the Shadow Pack and the New Moon Pack. Right now, they are packing up supplies for the group at the Mani territory. They will arrive there tomorrow morning. The other groups would be leaving in the morning for their camps and would arrive mid to late afternoon.

Once we are all seated in the dining hall, I see that only Xander and Arya are there. A few minutes later, Dev walks in, handing Arya some pills and a bottled water. She smiles at him gratefully and quickly takes the pills. Now that I look at her, she looks a little pale and there is a slight grimace on her face. All good? I ask Dev via mindlink. For now. She says it’s just cramps. He doesn’t turn to look at me while he links, his eyes scanning over her body. His voice is laced with worry, though you wouldn’t be able to tell by his face. Lily and Bhakti are here. They could talk with her. Dev’s eyes fly to mine.

We park the APCs at our pack and shift, making our way on foot to the Mani Pack. It’s only about a two hour run, which isn’t much for a wolf. Xander sent several scouts ahead of us to check out what the situation around the packhouse was and dispose of their guards. After about a 30 minute lead, the rest of us head to the Mani packhouse. We make it there at about dusk.The scouts report to Xander and he shifted back so that he could talk to the three packs. “The scouts reported that all of the wolves are around the packhouse grills, preparing for dinner. I had no idea that she was cutting us off from her emotions. I feel like the worst type of asshole that I didn’t insist that she go to the hospital while we were still on Diana Pack lands. But even Lily had taken her word and said that we could wait. Right now, Xander and I are in the waiting room outside of the surgical suite. Arya had to have a D&C. I had never heard of one before and Lily was patient as she explained it to us. When they completed the sonogram, they had found that not all of the placenta had detached from Arya’s uterus. It’s about a five and a half hour ride to the New Moon Pack territory and we make it there by mid-morning. From scouting reports, there was no one around yet and Seth’s texts had said that no one would arrive until around midday. We had plenty of time to set up defenses and patrols. Keegan left his beta, Donavan, in charge while he and Patrice...got acquainted. Donavan and a few of the other wolves sat down with Alessandra, Liam, Jordan, Gael, and me to look over a map of Mathias’s territory from their vehicles. Now Mathias wasn’t stupid enough to give us a map that had all of his safe houses and stuff on it, but the fact that we had a more accurate view of his territory, including hunting trails, small ponds, and shading for the dense parts of the forest was much more helpful than the general view we got from a typical human map.
