Sleep evaded me.

Ki had grown out of the nighttime wailing sessions so we could sleep peacefully too.

I had put on a brave face and was friendly with Rowan the whole day, laughing at his lame jokes and smiling for the pictures but now that everyone was gone and I had the time to think about all that he said, I was starting to get really scared.

As I had earlier inferred, the man always got what he wanted. And I had a history of falling back right into his arms no matter how despicably he acted. This was not good.

"Oh come on, Aurora!" I jumped off the bed, walked over to my vanity mirror, and turned on its lights. "You are a grown-ass woman and the mother of a beautiful baby girl. You are not some teenager that you are confused about things like this! You are not giving Rowan another chance and that's it!"

I jumped at the knock on my door.

"Who is it?" I asked like an idiot. Of course, it's Gabby because it sure as hell is not my six-month-old.
