“Kai's calling?" Xara asked shocked looking at her friend's faces.
They hadn't returned from the Bahamas, they had a week more to return, so why was he calling.
“Good morning Mr Maximilian." She greeted.
“Hey, how are you girls doing?" He asked.
“We good just woke up a couple of minutes ago." She explained.
“It's still night here, I just called to see how your vacation was going," Kai admitted.
“That's nice of you, thanks once again, Mr Maximilian." She smiled.
“Your welcome, what are you girls up to today? Partying?" He inquired turning on the other side of the bed.
“Naah, just some shopping, let me call it a girls day out." She explained.
“Okay, that sounds nice. Anyways have fun and then take care." Kai told dropping the call.
“Okay, what has gotten into Kai?" Alianna asked her friend.
“I am as shocked as you are Alianna," Xara replied.
“Let's get ready for our day out," Penny said walking into the bathroom.
“Isn't that Xara Maximilian?" A random girl asked her friends as Xara entered with Penny and Alianna.
“Omg! She is. Let's go take a picture with her." The girl's friends suggested as they rushed towards her.
“Oh hey!" Penny greeted as the girls approached them.
“Hi, we were wondering if we could take a picture with you." The girl told.
“Sure, why not." Alianna agreed as they got up and took pictures with them.
“Thanks, it must be really exciting to be the wife of the multimillionaire Kai Maximilian." One girl said as Xara smiled.
If only you knew what I was going through in this marriage you won't wish to be in my shoes. Xara thought to herself.
“He's so dreamy, forgive me for drooling over him." Another said.
“That he is," Xara added.
“See you around Mrs Maximilian, and her friends." The girls bid them goodbye as they left them.
“Someone's getting famous." Penny chuckled as they walked into the mall.
Kai's mine.
He's always been mine!
He dumped me because of that riffraff he calls wife?
I hope he likes his present. The strange woman muttered to herself as she followed Xara and her friends at a distance.
“Guys, I know I suggested this but my feet are killing me," Xara whined as she walked ahead not paying attention to her surroundings. She moved just in time as cans from the canned food section tumbled down. She wasn't lucky enough as a bunch of heavy cans landed on her ankle.
“Oww!" She exclaimed sitting on the floor. The woman hurried out of the mall as soon as she noticed people rushing towards Xara.
“Are you okay? Try getting up." Alianna said.
As soon as she stood on her foot she felt a sharp pain on her ankle. Alianna caught her in time before she fell to the ground.
“Call an ambulance!" Penny panicked as she yelled at the mall attendants.
Within a couple of minutes later, an ambulance arrived and She was put on a stretcher as her friends followed suit.
“Kai's calling again," Penny said showing her the phone.
“Don't--" It was too late because she had already answered the call.
“Where's Xara?" He asked as Penny answered the call.
“She's here but had a little accident that's why I answered her call," Penny explained.
“Accident? What happened?" He asked concerned.
“Something strange happened, cans from the shelf in the mall fell in her ankle, but it was as if someone had deliberately pushed them because they couldn't fall on their own since they were well arranged," Penny recalled.
“Can you hand the phone over to her please?" He softly asked as she did.
“Hi," Xara said glaring at her friend.
“Xara, are you clumsy enough not to watch where you were going!? Do you want people to point fingers at me that I don't take good care of my wife?" He boomed shocking her friends and Xara herself.
What's happening?! Penny thought to herself shocked at how he could change within nanoseconds.
“Mr Maximilian, I'm sorry for being clumsy. Don't worry I'd be alright. Sorry for tarnishing your name as well." She apologized as she dropped the call.
“Im so sorry, I shouldn't have told him about it. It's my fault." Penny consoled her friend.
“No, it's not. We all thought he had changed, but I guess it was a façade." She sighed as they reached the hospital.
The nurses took her into the ward to check if she had broken her ankle. Her ankle had turned into a purple-blueish colour.
“ How can he be so heartless?! I feel like snapping his neck, urggh!" Penny whispered to her friend.
“How can parents force their daughter into this kind of marriage, how the hell do they sleep at night?" Alianna replied.
“Those after money and fame, and nothing else. Even of their daughter is dying they don't seem to care. They rather blame her for being the cause of her own problems." Penny answered as the doctor walked towards them.
“How's the doctor?" Alianna asked.
“She's fine, but what really happened?" The doctor asked.
“We were at the food section where the canned foods are. Then all we heard was cans crashing down the shelves, She tried to get away fast but she wasn't fast enough as large, heavy cans of food landed on her ankle." Penny explained.
“That's strange, they won't fall unless someone pushed the shelf." The doctor stated.
“That's what I thought," Penny said again.
“So how serious is the injury?" Alianna asked.
“Well, due to the force at which they landed on the ankle, it tore her ligament. She would have to use crutches for about six weeks." The doctor explained.
“Can we see her now?" Alianna asked.
“Of course, this way please." The doctor answered taking them to Xara's ward.
“Hey," Penny greeted.
“Hi girls." She smiled at them.
“You feeling better now?" Alianna asked.
“Yh, the pain has subsided a little and we are going home tomorrow." She told them.
“Tomorrow?" Penny asked shocked.
“Yh, Kai's sent his PA to come to get us. He says I can continue with treatment in Brooklyn." She explained to them.
“Oh, okay." They both answered.
“We would go sought out the paperwork and head to the hotel to pack. We would be back in the evening to see you." Alianna said as they bid their friend goodbye and left the ward.
This is just a warning, next time I am not missing. The strange woman said to herself as she walked past Xara's ward.
“Is Kai bipolar or what? One minute he is all sweet, the other minute he's cold?" Penny asked as they entered the hotel.
"That is a question for him to answer," Alianna stated.
“ You seemed so happy with Kai?! What happened now, why are you leaving now that the moment you've been waiting for is here!" Xara asked her sister. “Im sorry Xara, Kai is a great guy no doubt, but I can't, I can't marry him. I'm sorry I had to do this, look on the bright side you both would make a perfect couple." Mabel tried to console her sister. Kai was great but she couldn't marry a man who would have no time for her and her future kids. But with Mike, he was everything a woman wanted. He was there for her when Kai started sleeping around with other women. He was there when Kai wouldn't care a hoot about what his mistresses said or did to her. She needed to be with a man who cares and Mike was the right man. “I-i have to go." Mabel wiped the tears off Xara's face and left without looking back. “Why couldn't you stop her?" Her dad shouted at her as he read the note Mabel left behind. “I trie
“Kai Darling!" Aurora Maximilian, the multi-tycoon and Kai's mother called out his name as she entered the house. She had been in New York for a few months for business and decided to pay Kai a visit to Brooklyn before she headed back to Italy. “Mom?" He responded descending to meet his mom. “What a surprise, what brings you here?" He asked. “I came to see you, and that peasant you married. Where is she by the way?" She said referring to Xara “Probably in her room or somewhere around the house." He added dismissively. " And you don't seem to care?" Aurora asked. “No, I don't. She's just a burden and you know I am so against divorce there's no way I am divorcing her." He said. Xara was walking past them to her room when she decided to eavesdrop on their conversation which she wished she didn't. She wiped the stray tears off her face and decided to go and say hello to her mother-in-law. “Good morning Madam." Xara greeted
“ Watch out!" A voice said but it was too late as his body collided with the moving car. The driver sped off immediately leaving her on the cold lonely road. “Stay with me." A voice said shakily. She caressed his face before her eyes closed and everything went black. Xara woke up with a start. She was panting hard and she did the droplets of sweat off her face. Her ankle was much better as she had stopped using the crutches. She sometimes felt pain in her ankle when she stood for a long time or if she mounted her full weight on it. She took deep breaths calming herself down. What was that? She questioned herself walking into the bathroom to have her bath. Her mother in law was still living with them though she was supposed to leave two weeks ago. She was making life a living hell for Xara in her home. But as determined as Xara was, she decided to endure every bit of it. “Good morning." Xara greete
“Xara are you okay?" Kai joined her in the garden startling her. “I am okay." Her smile not reaching her eyes. He knew she wasn't okay. “Hey," He took her hands into his. She looked into his eyes and carefully pulled her hands from his. Valerie and Aurora had literally turned her into a servant in her own house. “Excuse me." She got up, took her glass of orange juice and walked out on him heading to the treehouse. Kai says sighing in his chair. What do I do? I can't get married to Valerie Adams, she's deranged! He said to himself walking into the house. “Xara?" He called as he entered. “Is there anything you want?" Valerie asked him. “No, have you seen my wife?" He emphasized on the wife. “Um, I haven't seen the peasant. I heard you guys talking outside so how come you're asking me?" She inquired. “She walked out towards this direction so--- never mind." H
Mabel smiled at the message she had sent to her sister. She knew she was going through a lot because she talked about it with her mom. She dropped her phone on the bedpost and hurried to the kitchen to prepare something for her husband to eat. She had wanted to surprise him with breakfast in bed that morning, following Sarah's advice by showing more love and attention to her husband made her realise a change. He was more lively than he was before and she was grateful for that. Xara walked into the house with her head held up high. “Where have you been you whore?! I guess you've been whoring around." Aurora argued but Xara didn't say a word. She rather ignored her and walked towards her room leaving the woman ranting and raving like a madwoman. “Ma what's wrong?" Kai inquired. “That whore just walked in and she blatantly ignored me when I asked of her whereabouts," Aurora explained. Kai walked out on her heading towards his wife's room.
“Xara, meet Lorenzo, my old friend." Alianna introduced at their favourite spot in school. “ It's nice to meet you, Lorenzo, you just moved to this school?' She wondered out loud because they were in their final year and almost done so how come he's new here. “Oh, he isn't new to the school, he was a distance learning student but decided to be a regular student this sem when he moved here." Penny chipped in. “Okay, that makes sense now." She chuckled as her friends heaved a sigh of relieve. “Once again, welcome Lorenzo. It's nice to have another friend, I am sick and tired of these ones." She joked. “The pleasure is mine Xara.' He smiled showing his dimples. “You know you love and can't do with us right?' Penny nudged her friend. “I know.'" She smiled as they walked off to class. “Hey, love." Mabel kissed Mike as he stirred in his sleep. “Morning babe." He huskily responded. “Mike, wake up. I made breakfast. Eat up and let's go prepare for work." She nudged him. “But, I don
Why do I keep thinking about her? Am I falling for her already? Am I ready to love again? Kai asked himself as he paced up and down his office. He was torn between accepting Xara or following his mom's wish. To marry Valerie was out of the question. She was a deranged bitch. And he wasn't ready to marry someone who could harm him at any given time. “I'd start by being her friend, maybe that will be the best way to get her to trust me." He audibly thought as he sat at his desk. “When I meant care about his feeling I didn't tell you to neglect yourself. Did you want to die? Do you think that would have made things better?" Sarah scolded her friend. “I know I messed up, but I got comfortable seeing him happy, I didn't want to make him feel bad by seeing me cry. I don't know how it got out of hand." Mabel explained. “It's fine, but you both need to talk things through, it will help you both
Kai lay on Xara's bed as they talked late into the night. He had decided to come to spend the night in her room and continue their conversation from the other time. “How come you hooked up with someone as toxic as Valerie." Xara voiced out. She immediately covered her mouth when she realised what she had said. “Wait, how did you know she was deranged?" Kai asked. “Erm, um from the way she behaved when your mom came here and when she poured hot water on my arm." She said trying to convince him. “Okay..." He said unconvinced. That was close. She thought to herself. “Well, it was just a fling, after college I wasn't seeing anyone so, I met her at a conference and we hit off. We were good friends and then it turned into friends with benefits something, and that's where she started acting weird. Then I met Cassidy, fell in love with her, Valerie wasn't having any of it..." Kai trailed off as Xara changed into her nightmare. Sh
