For a couple of days, Xara hadn't seen her husband after what had happened. She hadn't breathed a word to her friends or her mom and they didn't suspect a thing. She behaved normally as if nothing had happened.
“Sorry, I didn't--- Kai?" Xara called out shocked. Her husband looked dishevelled. It was as if he hadn't showered nor slept for a few days now. He wanted to bypass her and enter into the room but she blocked his path.
She couldn't let him beat himself up anymore for this. It had already happened and the harm couldn't be undone.
“Just let me through, please." He softly spoke as she made way for him to enter following closely before he shut the door in her face.
“Kai." She placed her hand on his shoulder. He pushed her hands-off as he was about walking off when she grabbed his arm.
“ You can't keep doing this to yourself, the harm has already been done. Just try to forget it and move on." She advised.
“Just leave." He pointed at the door as she sighed walking out.
I hope he would be fine. Xara thought to herself walking to her room.
Mike was impressed at his wife's sudden change. He was glad that she was back to herself. The Mabel he fell in love with and married. He was happy they were starting a family of their own after months of him trying to convince her.
In a long while, Mabel was finally happy. She was glad she met Kai again for them to iron out their differences and say their final goodbye. She was happy she finally agreed to start a family with her husband.
I hope Xara and Kai are doing good together.
I pray Kai headed to my plea as well. She pondered.
A couple of weeks later, Kai was much better and had cut down his alcohol intake. Xara was proud of him, even though he was still ignoring her. She, Penny and Alianna was travelling to the Bahamas for their holidays and a break from this bondage she called marriage. She wasn't ready to meet anyone, all she wanted was peace of mind and a change of scenery. She just needed time to forget what had inspired between herself and Kai.
“I hope you girls stay safe," Amanda told them as they packed their bags.
“We will and we're going to miss you as well," Xara added.
“I'd miss you more, the house would be lonely without you around." She answered.
“I know you've been going to see Xara even when I warned you not to," Ken said behind her.
“How can you stop a mother from seeing her child? Do you have an idea of what she's going through in that house?" Zoe raised her voice at him. She wasn't scared of him any more. She wasn't going to let him intimidate her any more. Enough is enough.
“I would let it slide this time around, the next time you go to see her against my wish, you wouldn't like what's going to happen." His voice boomed.
“Nothing would happen dear, nothing." She boldly replied shocking him.
He was about saying something but he let it be and stormed off to only God knows where.
“This scenery is beautiful!" Penny added raising her hands up in the air. They had checked into their hotels and headed off to the beach. They were on a speed boat enjoying the weather and the breeze as well. Xara pit away all her worries and enjoyed the moment while it lasted because she was aware she wasn't going to enjoy this ever with her husband. Maybe with her children shortly but with Kai, she doubted.
Funny enough, with all that had been going on she still managed to develop feelings for Kai which was a shock for her as well.
How could I fall for such a man? Did she question herself?
Love knows no boundaries. Her heart answered.
“Sexy guys approaching." Alianna prompted. Xara wasn't interested in any of them. She was a married woman and she made a vow to stay faithful. Even if her husband did. Two wrongs never made a right.
“Hi, I am Nik and you are?" One of the guys with hazel eyes and black messy hair introduced her.
“I'm Xara and married." She said making sure he saw her ring.
Alianna and Penny decided to stay with Nik and his friends, Gray and Nelson while Xara headed into the hotel for some food and relaxation. She was going to enjoy every service provided before they went back to Brooklyn, NY.
“Is it true your friend is married or that's a fake ring?" Nik chuckled making Alianna angry. She took a deep breath before she answered him.
“Yes, Xara Maximilian is married." She stressed on the Maximilian to draw their attention to whom she was married to.
“Oh, okay." Nik gulped.
“Yes," Penny replied sensing his uncomfortable state.
“The snow glows white on the mountain tonight
He was glad she had ended her affair with Kai. He was aware she was cheating but didn't say anything about it. He wasn't the best husband then but he changed as soon as he realised the changes in her. Deep down, he knew his Mabel was there, waiting to come back after she realised her mistakes, he couldn't be any happier than he was right now.
Love, they say is patient. He smiled at the thought.
“Kai's calling?" Xara asked shocked looking at her friend's faces. They hadn't returned from the Bahamas, they had a week more to return, so why was he calling. “Good morning Mr Maximilian." She greeted. “Hey, how are you girls doing?" He asked. “We good just woke up a couple of minutes ago." She explained. “It's still night here, I just called to see how your vacation was going," Kai admitted. “That's nice of you, thanks once again, Mr Maximilian." She smiled. “Your welcome, what are you girls up to today? Partying?" He inquired turning on the other side of the bed. “Naah, just some shopping, let me call it a girls day out." She explained. “Okay, that sounds nice. Anyways have fun and then take care." Kai told dropping the call. “Okay, what has gotten into Kai?" Alianna asked her friend. “I am as shocked as you are Alianna," Xara replied. “Let's get ready for our day out," Penny sa
“ You seemed so happy with Kai?! What happened now, why are you leaving now that the moment you've been waiting for is here!" Xara asked her sister. “Im sorry Xara, Kai is a great guy no doubt, but I can't, I can't marry him. I'm sorry I had to do this, look on the bright side you both would make a perfect couple." Mabel tried to console her sister. Kai was great but she couldn't marry a man who would have no time for her and her future kids. But with Mike, he was everything a woman wanted. He was there for her when Kai started sleeping around with other women. He was there when Kai wouldn't care a hoot about what his mistresses said or did to her. She needed to be with a man who cares and Mike was the right man. “I-i have to go." Mabel wiped the tears off Xara's face and left without looking back. “Why couldn't you stop her?" Her dad shouted at her as he read the note Mabel left behind. “I trie
“Kai Darling!" Aurora Maximilian, the multi-tycoon and Kai's mother called out his name as she entered the house. She had been in New York for a few months for business and decided to pay Kai a visit to Brooklyn before she headed back to Italy. “Mom?" He responded descending to meet his mom. “What a surprise, what brings you here?" He asked. “I came to see you, and that peasant you married. Where is she by the way?" She said referring to Xara “Probably in her room or somewhere around the house." He added dismissively. " And you don't seem to care?" Aurora asked. “No, I don't. She's just a burden and you know I am so against divorce there's no way I am divorcing her." He said. Xara was walking past them to her room when she decided to eavesdrop on their conversation which she wished she didn't. She wiped the stray tears off her face and decided to go and say hello to her mother-in-law. “Good morning Madam." Xara greeted
“ Watch out!" A voice said but it was too late as his body collided with the moving car. The driver sped off immediately leaving her on the cold lonely road. “Stay with me." A voice said shakily. She caressed his face before her eyes closed and everything went black. Xara woke up with a start. She was panting hard and she did the droplets of sweat off her face. Her ankle was much better as she had stopped using the crutches. She sometimes felt pain in her ankle when she stood for a long time or if she mounted her full weight on it. She took deep breaths calming herself down. What was that? She questioned herself walking into the bathroom to have her bath. Her mother in law was still living with them though she was supposed to leave two weeks ago. She was making life a living hell for Xara in her home. But as determined as Xara was, she decided to endure every bit of it. “Good morning." Xara greete
“Xara are you okay?" Kai joined her in the garden startling her. “I am okay." Her smile not reaching her eyes. He knew she wasn't okay. “Hey," He took her hands into his. She looked into his eyes and carefully pulled her hands from his. Valerie and Aurora had literally turned her into a servant in her own house. “Excuse me." She got up, took her glass of orange juice and walked out on him heading to the treehouse. Kai says sighing in his chair. What do I do? I can't get married to Valerie Adams, she's deranged! He said to himself walking into the house. “Xara?" He called as he entered. “Is there anything you want?" Valerie asked him. “No, have you seen my wife?" He emphasized on the wife. “Um, I haven't seen the peasant. I heard you guys talking outside so how come you're asking me?" She inquired. “She walked out towards this direction so--- never mind." H
Mabel smiled at the message she had sent to her sister. She knew she was going through a lot because she talked about it with her mom. She dropped her phone on the bedpost and hurried to the kitchen to prepare something for her husband to eat. She had wanted to surprise him with breakfast in bed that morning, following Sarah's advice by showing more love and attention to her husband made her realise a change. He was more lively than he was before and she was grateful for that. Xara walked into the house with her head held up high. “Where have you been you whore?! I guess you've been whoring around." Aurora argued but Xara didn't say a word. She rather ignored her and walked towards her room leaving the woman ranting and raving like a madwoman. “Ma what's wrong?" Kai inquired. “That whore just walked in and she blatantly ignored me when I asked of her whereabouts," Aurora explained. Kai walked out on her heading towards his wife's room.
“Xara, meet Lorenzo, my old friend." Alianna introduced at their favourite spot in school. “ It's nice to meet you, Lorenzo, you just moved to this school?' She wondered out loud because they were in their final year and almost done so how come he's new here. “Oh, he isn't new to the school, he was a distance learning student but decided to be a regular student this sem when he moved here." Penny chipped in. “Okay, that makes sense now." She chuckled as her friends heaved a sigh of relieve. “Once again, welcome Lorenzo. It's nice to have another friend, I am sick and tired of these ones." She joked. “The pleasure is mine Xara.' He smiled showing his dimples. “You know you love and can't do with us right?' Penny nudged her friend. “I know.'" She smiled as they walked off to class. “Hey, love." Mabel kissed Mike as he stirred in his sleep. “Morning babe." He huskily responded. “Mike, wake up. I made breakfast. Eat up and let's go prepare for work." She nudged him. “But, I don
Why do I keep thinking about her? Am I falling for her already? Am I ready to love again? Kai asked himself as he paced up and down his office. He was torn between accepting Xara or following his mom's wish. To marry Valerie was out of the question. She was a deranged bitch. And he wasn't ready to marry someone who could harm him at any given time. “I'd start by being her friend, maybe that will be the best way to get her to trust me." He audibly thought as he sat at his desk. “When I meant care about his feeling I didn't tell you to neglect yourself. Did you want to die? Do you think that would have made things better?" Sarah scolded her friend. “I know I messed up, but I got comfortable seeing him happy, I didn't want to make him feel bad by seeing me cry. I don't know how it got out of hand." Mabel explained. “It's fine, but you both need to talk things through, it will help you both
