Kai's attitude towards Xara came back to normal after a couple of days. Even though he didn't hit her, the verbal abuse was so much that she wished she could run away and seek shelter in another city. But she didn't have the guts to do so. She was worried about her mom and what her dad would say or do to her if he found out that she had run away.
Mabel, wherever you are, please come and get your man. I can't stand this torture anymore. She cried to herself.
She was tired of having hands pointed at her all the time. She was tired of being blamed for no fault of hers. She was tired of being treated like a piece of trash.
“Why do you hate me so so much?!" She burst out to her husband.
“What did I ever do to deserve this cruel treatment?" She further added.
“I never begged to marry you, so why all this?" She sobbed harder until she was out of breathing while kneeling down.
Kai noticed she was having a hard time breathing. He pulled her up and hugged her rubbing her back to calm her down so that she wouldn't pass out.
After a while, her breathing had steadied and she broke off the hug. Though it was soothing, and her husband smelled nice but she pulled away before he had the chance to push her off as if she was a worthless piece of trash.
She walked out on him not wanting to hear what he had to say. Alianna had travelled out with her parents for a two-day trip and Penny had also gone to see her father so she was left all alone. Amanda checked on here occasionally but, that wasn't enough.
She looked through the window and discovered an old abandoned tree house not far away from her room. She instantly had an idea. She climbed down her window as she noticed a ladder attached to the wall. She felt giddy as she walked towards the treehouse.
I could renovate this place to become my safe haven.
A place where I could have peace from the outside world.
She smiled climbing up into the treehouse. The inside looked beautiful although it was dusty and had some cobwebs around it. She fell in love with the place instantly.“This is lovely." She smiled to herself. She spotted a broom, mop, mop bucket and a trash can at the far corner of the room. She picked up the mop bucket and headed to the bathroom to get some water for the cleanup exercise. She was going to make this her getaway place. She carefully placed the bucket down and then picked the broom and started to sweep off the dust. She put on Megan Trainor's “All about that bass" and began bobbing her head to the beat and singing along to the song.
“Yeah it's pretty clear, I ain't no size two
She remained silent as more tears fell. He got up and wore his boxer shorts and that's where he saw her torn clothes. He further lifted the sheets to see blood on them and that's when he realised that he forced himself on her.
He hurried to her side and sat on the bed holding her in his arms.
“I am so sorry, please forgive me for this. Gosh, I'm sorry." He apologized to her. She saw the sincerity and regret in his eyes. He helped her lie down well and then left her room to his feeling utterly disgusted with himself.
What have I done! He cried out as he got to his room.
For a couple of days, Xara hadn't seen her husband after what had happened. She hadn't breathed a word to her friends or her mom and they didn't suspect a thing. She behaved normally as if nothing had happened. “Sorry, I didn't--- Kai?" Xara called out shocked. Her husband looked dishevelled. It was as if he hadn't showered nor slept for a few days now. He wanted to bypass her and enter into the room but she blocked his path. She couldn't let him beat himself up anymore for this. It had already happened and the harm couldn't be undone. “Just let me through, please." He softly spoke as she made way for him to enter following closely before he shut the door in her face. “Kai." She placed her hand on his shoulder. He pushed her hands-off as he was about walking off when she grabbed his arm. “ You can't keep doing this to yourself, the harm has already been done. Just try to forget it and move on." She advised. “Just leave." He pointed at
“Kai's calling?" Xara asked shocked looking at her friend's faces. They hadn't returned from the Bahamas, they had a week more to return, so why was he calling. “Good morning Mr Maximilian." She greeted. “Hey, how are you girls doing?" He asked. “We good just woke up a couple of minutes ago." She explained. “It's still night here, I just called to see how your vacation was going," Kai admitted. “That's nice of you, thanks once again, Mr Maximilian." She smiled. “Your welcome, what are you girls up to today? Partying?" He inquired turning on the other side of the bed. “Naah, just some shopping, let me call it a girls day out." She explained. “Okay, that sounds nice. Anyways have fun and then take care." Kai told dropping the call. “Okay, what has gotten into Kai?" Alianna asked her friend. “I am as shocked as you are Alianna," Xara replied. “Let's get ready for our day out," Penny sa
“ You seemed so happy with Kai?! What happened now, why are you leaving now that the moment you've been waiting for is here!" Xara asked her sister. “Im sorry Xara, Kai is a great guy no doubt, but I can't, I can't marry him. I'm sorry I had to do this, look on the bright side you both would make a perfect couple." Mabel tried to console her sister. Kai was great but she couldn't marry a man who would have no time for her and her future kids. But with Mike, he was everything a woman wanted. He was there for her when Kai started sleeping around with other women. He was there when Kai wouldn't care a hoot about what his mistresses said or did to her. She needed to be with a man who cares and Mike was the right man. “I-i have to go." Mabel wiped the tears off Xara's face and left without looking back. “Why couldn't you stop her?" Her dad shouted at her as he read the note Mabel left behind. “I trie
“Kai Darling!" Aurora Maximilian, the multi-tycoon and Kai's mother called out his name as she entered the house. She had been in New York for a few months for business and decided to pay Kai a visit to Brooklyn before she headed back to Italy. “Mom?" He responded descending to meet his mom. “What a surprise, what brings you here?" He asked. “I came to see you, and that peasant you married. Where is she by the way?" She said referring to Xara “Probably in her room or somewhere around the house." He added dismissively. " And you don't seem to care?" Aurora asked. “No, I don't. She's just a burden and you know I am so against divorce there's no way I am divorcing her." He said. Xara was walking past them to her room when she decided to eavesdrop on their conversation which she wished she didn't. She wiped the stray tears off her face and decided to go and say hello to her mother-in-law. “Good morning Madam." Xara greeted
“ Watch out!" A voice said but it was too late as his body collided with the moving car. The driver sped off immediately leaving her on the cold lonely road. “Stay with me." A voice said shakily. She caressed his face before her eyes closed and everything went black. Xara woke up with a start. She was panting hard and she did the droplets of sweat off her face. Her ankle was much better as she had stopped using the crutches. She sometimes felt pain in her ankle when she stood for a long time or if she mounted her full weight on it. She took deep breaths calming herself down. What was that? She questioned herself walking into the bathroom to have her bath. Her mother in law was still living with them though she was supposed to leave two weeks ago. She was making life a living hell for Xara in her home. But as determined as Xara was, she decided to endure every bit of it. “Good morning." Xara greete
“Xara are you okay?" Kai joined her in the garden startling her. “I am okay." Her smile not reaching her eyes. He knew she wasn't okay. “Hey," He took her hands into his. She looked into his eyes and carefully pulled her hands from his. Valerie and Aurora had literally turned her into a servant in her own house. “Excuse me." She got up, took her glass of orange juice and walked out on him heading to the treehouse. Kai says sighing in his chair. What do I do? I can't get married to Valerie Adams, she's deranged! He said to himself walking into the house. “Xara?" He called as he entered. “Is there anything you want?" Valerie asked him. “No, have you seen my wife?" He emphasized on the wife. “Um, I haven't seen the peasant. I heard you guys talking outside so how come you're asking me?" She inquired. “She walked out towards this direction so--- never mind." H
Mabel smiled at the message she had sent to her sister. She knew she was going through a lot because she talked about it with her mom. She dropped her phone on the bedpost and hurried to the kitchen to prepare something for her husband to eat. She had wanted to surprise him with breakfast in bed that morning, following Sarah's advice by showing more love and attention to her husband made her realise a change. He was more lively than he was before and she was grateful for that. Xara walked into the house with her head held up high. “Where have you been you whore?! I guess you've been whoring around." Aurora argued but Xara didn't say a word. She rather ignored her and walked towards her room leaving the woman ranting and raving like a madwoman. “Ma what's wrong?" Kai inquired. “That whore just walked in and she blatantly ignored me when I asked of her whereabouts," Aurora explained. Kai walked out on her heading towards his wife's room.
“Xara, meet Lorenzo, my old friend." Alianna introduced at their favourite spot in school. “ It's nice to meet you, Lorenzo, you just moved to this school?' She wondered out loud because they were in their final year and almost done so how come he's new here. “Oh, he isn't new to the school, he was a distance learning student but decided to be a regular student this sem when he moved here." Penny chipped in. “Okay, that makes sense now." She chuckled as her friends heaved a sigh of relieve. “Once again, welcome Lorenzo. It's nice to have another friend, I am sick and tired of these ones." She joked. “The pleasure is mine Xara.' He smiled showing his dimples. “You know you love and can't do with us right?' Penny nudged her friend. “I know.'" She smiled as they walked off to class. “Hey, love." Mabel kissed Mike as he stirred in his sleep. “Morning babe." He huskily responded. “Mike, wake up. I made breakfast. Eat up and let's go prepare for work." She nudged him. “But, I don
