Chapter 6

Caelus’s grating voice was laced with mockery, and it destroyed all of Ruth’s delusions.

Honestly, he was no different from Callum and his family.

Just like them, he was a hypocrite and a greedy man.

He disgusted her.

Ruth narrowed her eyes and stared at his face.

Then, she yanked the handbrake down, stomped on the gas pedal, and sent her car flying forward like an arrow loosed from a bow.

Caelus’s pupils shrank in fear. He instinctively took two steps back before dodging to the side to avoid the car.

In his hurry, he tripped over his right leg and fell on the ground. He looked absolutely pathetic.

The car charging over toward him did not slow down in the slightest, and all he could hear were surprised shouts.

“Caelus!”

“What’re you doing, Ruth?!”

Luna had come out at some point in time, and behind her was Bella. When they saw what was going on, the two of them were so terrified that they shut their eyes.

They did not dare to see what was about to happen.

Screeeeeech!

There was the shrill sound of tires skidding on the ground. Then, the red Ferrari came to a stop.

The front of the car was only a few centimeters away from Caelus.

Ruth wound down the car window and peeked out. There was a nonchalant air about her, and when she spoke, her voice was calm. It was a stark contrast to how scared everyone around her was.

“Mind your own business.”

With that said, she sped away in her car and left behind a plum of exhaust fumes for the people behind her.

Caelus spat on the ground a few times and clenched his fists as he thought. “That mad woman! I won’t forgive her so easily!”

Night in the Imperial City was filled with bright lights and life.

Ruth drove aimlessly along the road. The flickering lights shone through her car window and illuminated her face periodically. They gave her a dejected air.

“You go to nightclubs all the time… Have a horrible reputation…”

These unpleasant words had long been attached to her. It was so long that she had stopped worrying about what people are going to think about her because of her actions.

She turned her steering wheel to head to a bar when her phone suddenly rang.

She picked up the call, and she heard a cold male voice. “Where are you?”

Ruth’s mind went blank for a moment. She checked the screen and found that it was an unknown number.

“Who are you?”

The man did not say anything for a long moment.

When he finally spoke up again, Ruth could tell that he was holding back some sort of emotion. “My dear, not only did you forget about our wedding night, but you even forgot to save my number?”

Then, Ruth finally remembered. This was her tool of a husband.

Still, if she did not save his number, so be it. Why did he sound so murderous?

He sounded so scary!

“You moved? You sure are efficient.” She remained nonchalant and did not change the direction of where she was headed. She still intended to go to a bar.

“You have half an hour to come back. I want to see you at home by then.”

After saying that, Abel hung up.

Ruth stared at her darkened screen. She was absolutely baffled as she thought. “How dare he?! Doesn’t he know his status at my house? Doesn’t he know who’s the one calling the shots between us?”

When she reached a junction, she started tapping at the steering wheel. Then, she turned her car around and headed to the Song District of the South River.

Once she arrived at the parking lot, Ruth checked the time.

“I drove too fast. Can’t believe I got here in twenty minutes.”

Since she was worried that she would give the gigolo the impression that she got home on time because she was scared of him, Ruth intentionally stayed in the parking lot for ten minutes before she got out and went upstairs.

She had bought this particular apartment because it was right next to the commercial district and Rising Star.

When she bought the apartment, she told Caelus that this could be their new home. However, that sc*mbag said that the apartment was too small and was not located in a villa district. He even discreetly grumbled about it.

It led to Ruth awkwardly putting the key she was just about to hand over to him right back into her pocket.

Now that she thought about it, she felt fortunate that she never gave it to him.

Otherwise, that b*stard might have moved into her new home with his mistress and even had sex inside. She felt disgusted just thinking about it.

Ruth entered the password and opened the lock. Once she went inside, she was stunned.

Her home was cleaned up nicely and did not look as desolate as she left it in the morning. The light in the dining hall shone with a gentle glow, and there was an exquisite dinner laid out on the table. It was accompanied by fresh flowers and red wine. All in all, it was very romantic.

How could she describe her feelings at that moment?

She had come in with guns blazing, determined to stake her claim as the head of the household, but he had delivered a bouquet of roses into her arms instead.

She just could not be mad at him…

“You’re five minutes late.”

Abel was pouring red wine into a glass. When he spoke, his voice was cold and emotionless.

“I saw the car of someone I owe money to downstairs, so I stared at it for a bit.”

Ruth magnanimously decided to not fight with Abel anymore. Hence, she just kicked off her heels and walked over to him barefoot.

When she sat down at the dining table and observed the food laid out before her, she let out a sigh full of emotion. “This is the first time I’m going to eat at home after coming back to the country.”

Abel stopped pouring wine for a moment and cast a glance at her. “Have you washed your hands?”

Ruth let go of the fork she had just grabbed and stared at her hands. Then, she looked Abel up and down with an unreadable look in her eyes.

In her mind, she thought. “He’s reticent, and he gives off an awe-inspiring aura.

“Does he like playing the domineering CEO?

“Fine. Since he cooked dinner, I’ll do as he said.”

After she washed her hands, they sat down at the dining table.

Abel picked up his wine glass and looked at Ruth. “To a happy married life, Mrs. Blakewell.”
