Chapter Twenty-nine
“Greetings Mugabe son of Mugabe,’’ his deep voice cut through the bleak silence like razor, “you have a reckoning to answer for, from the son of Oranmiyan, prepare to be judged.’’“All I have done, I did for science and how to make the world better, and yes I will do again given the chance.’’ Mugabe glared up at Shango in defiance, betrayed only by the tremor in his voice.“At the cost of my own freedom, freewill and years of pain,’’ Shango bristled, defend thy case better, mortal for your life and that of your people hangs in the balance.’’The doctor glanced back at his colleagues, for once emotion flashed through his impassive face.“The decisions was mine and mine alone demon,’’ he said, ‘’they were just following orders, my own grandfather started this project, the feud is between you and I pagan god.’’Shango growled. “the one who stole the keg of palm oil from the ledge from whence it was kep

Chapter Thirty
Captain Idahosa groaned as the institute alarms wailed, there goes his uneventful afternoon. "What's the status command tower," he growled over the comm device. "Code red captain," a bored voice replied. He groaned again, those damn abnormal children, it irks him to call them children, as though they were any normal, they're responsible for 70 percent alarm activity in the institute since he got drafted to the askari. After the last encounter with them he had thought they'd at least get a few months of respite until the doctor's got rid of them, he had felt a grim sense of satisfaction after the askari overpowered the lot of them a few weeks ago, with their supposed superior strengths, his squad had portrayed the reason why they were elites, why would anyone need those pompous feathered monstrosities anyways, give his squad enough guns and they would hold the institute's most feared secret himself, the d

Chapter Thirty-one
As I left my offspring’s to mourn their dead, I couldn’t help but felt some empathy towards them. They had been harshly shown life and the vanity that was its garment. I wandered on after I had dealt with the insignificant warriors who failed to realize their leaders were dead and they were outmatched, for even in my weakened state, they were of no match for me.There was pandemonium everywhere as the inhabitants of my accursed prison ran helter skelter, the chaos fed strength into my limbs as I wandered on in my search for the exit. At every turn these stubborn mortal warriors would ambush me with their annoying weapons from afar, cowards sons of cowards all of them, for all their persistent none dared to confront me in personal combat.I beheld my surroundings as I walked, i marveled at the strength of power, wielded by the chubby little one, the might of Orisha Oko the earth god himself, she had pulled up the entire building from its hidden

Omotola gaped after Shango’s retreating figure, taking the gunshots and howls away with him. She couldn’t help but ponder over the Doctor’s warning about him using them as a mean to serve an end. She looked at her siblings.Binta and Orchid bent over Babybaby as she sobbed over Orchid’s shoulders, Shettima and Obiora stood solemnly aside, their wings fanned fretfully at their backs.“What do we do?’’ Orchid’s whispered to no one in particular,“I suggest we make ourselves scarce before we’re blamed for all this or worse get captured again.’’ Binta shuddered as she glanced fearfully at the ruined chamber and mangled corpses.“What about Logan?“We will not help him by sticking around here; Obiora cuts in, bending over to cradle Babybaby into his arms. “Binta’s right," he said "following…Shango out of here before he leaves us behind is

Chapter Thirty-three
They flew northward for what seems like hours until their wings began to tire. Shango simply ignored the rest of them but took Babybaby into his arms and flew on forgetting the fact that he was riding on winds while the children flapped painfully after him, stoically bearing their discomfort in silence partly because they feared he might leave them behind and take Babybaby away with him and because of their rigid training with the institute. At last, at sun down, he banked and dived, superman style as they awkwardly adjusted their flight pattern to follow him. What a show off, Omotola wanted to yell but she had all her last remaining endurance concentrated on trying not to fall on her head. He landed gracefully on a plateau while they crashed after him like drunken ducks; he simply ignored them as he gently placed a sleeping Babybaby on the grass. From the way his shoulders stiffened, they knew he was still boiling with untapped rage.“W

A subdued silence enveloped the fireplace after Shango’s story, interrupted only by the occasional chirping of the night crickets.“That does not count as a bedtime story,’’ Babybaby finally found her voice.“It is child,’’ the thunder god answered.“No it’s not’’ Babybaby insisted quite stubbornly. “bedtime stories are supposed to be a nice tales with happy ending, all bedtime fairytales are, like the ones Amaka used to read to me, this one is a stupid story.’’“Babybaby hush it’’ Orchid started, fearing the frown on Shango’s face.“What is a fairytale?’’ he asked instead.“Well it’s the best story there is, a prince falls in love with a princess, a bad witch not happy with the arrangement pokes nose into the matter, the prince cuts her great big nose with his shiny sword, rides away with his love and eve

Chapter Thirty-five
Alexis Constance Mugabe stood staring at the skeleton that was the remains of the institute, the dust from the debris coated the air as it mingled with the smoke from nearby burning buildings. She tore her gaze from the uprooted remains of the once impressive D.R.E.G labs headquarter to stare impassively instead at the state’s vice-governor has he struggled up the wreckage to stand beside her, the side of her mouth curled up in amusement at his bemused look; it’s been a week since the institute building burrowed up from below to put an end to the simple uneventful lives of the Lagosians, leaving them confused and frightened. Her sore mood sugared up a bit at the look on the vice’s face as he gaped at the massive building before him. Alexis was amused at the politician’s discomfort, they had always had this sense of assurance that they were prepared for anything. Their lying skills would put a lie detector test machine to

The next day, Shettima suggested they enter the small town at the feet of the plateau to gather information and news, he was curious about how the public had reacted to the recent events. Shango reluctantly agreed but not without teaching them how to glamour their wings.“Your wings are residual magic’s; imitating the rooster wings I conjured on my person during my captivity, in mockery of my genes as the men in long white coats would say, unlike mine it cannot simply be removed with a wave of hand because it has been imbued in you since birth, but still they are made entirely of hardened lightening, and can be temporarily dispersed like ozone matter if you concentrate enough.’’On saying this, he proceeded in teaching them, the shock on their faces were comical as they gaped at each other, looking strangely different without their wings, it was like it was there but at the same time not there, despite the wings absent, Omotola coul

"All area units, we've got a reported rampage situation in victoria garden city axis...all units be advised suspect is an Abami situation."Detective Okafor shared a look with his partner as they listened to the police scanner, wondering whether it's a good or a bad thing that they were in the area."Abami situation?" Detective Bisi asked as she pulled their car out the fast food driveway, picking up speed."It's what the police call all the monsters that escaped that damn building," Detective Okafor answered, "fewer of the creatures has been sighted so far but the bigger ones are getting hungry, and if one has found its way into the garden city things aren't gonna look good for the residents.""Are we even equipped for this kind of situation?, I've seen the videos, these creatures are way above our pay grade.""We do our duty Bisi, hopefully this Abami is one of the little ones." "Who's going stop him from setting fire to a group of street hoodlums thus bringing attention down on us." Orchid whispered anxiously."Nope to the nope," Obiora answered, "I'm not gonna stand in the way of a god that likes fighting so stop looking at me."Shango heard and chuckled."Wisdom is the daughter of caution my boy, a wise choice you have made for only the creator can stop me from a prey I fancy, these fine warriors have challenged iroko himself, it will be a shame if I don't answer."Shetimma sighed, "Binta can you at least disable all camera around the restaurant?""It's done.""Worry not about discovery, the mortals won't know we were here." Shango laughed again, his mood seem to have shifted in anticipation for a fight. As he said this, he muttered an incantation and his appearance shimmered for a bit and a short unimpressive man stood in his place. "You can change your appearance?" Shetimma managed to find his voic
