Chapter 27
Chapter twenty seven Before the trigger was pulled, resounding shots were fired, but not at us. And not at Isaiah. Ahead of us he diminished onto the hard ground, blood spraying from his leg, it left the other guard ample time to recover but another shot sounded, filling the air with vibrato and quakes and he also to crash to the ground.   Forcefully, I pushed away from the chair, eager to see who saved our lives. Adrian and Zee uncovered from behind the two men, both brandishing revolvers in their grips. Both strong, unwavering.   Zee's eyes wandered to the guards on the ground, seizing their arsenal away from them whilst they were left writhing on the ground. She stepped over them, Adrian went around. Her eyes found mine. "You didn't think you were leaving without us, did you?"   Gripping the chair behind me, I managed a smile. "Of course not, Zee. Thank you both. How did you know we were here?"

Chapter 27.5
"She's right. Despite what you may think of me, I still know how troubling living this life is. How many sacrifices you have to be prone to accept. I know Belle and I know she loves you. Go back to her, live a normal life or you'll regret it." Every so often Isaiah's eyes would search mine. It seems like this was more to himself than Adrian. "Maybe." His voice slightly cracked, probably bearing the weight of his choices. Clearing his throat, he began again. "Maybe." The conversation dried out, silence trapped us. I could guess everyone was busy thinking about an array of different problems. Their personal life, the Nations, the OA. We were still young. We still had issues to solve. But I hope this revelation would be somewhat of a good news. "You all are probably wondering, how far I've come in the trials. Despite everything and how destructive it was to go through. It was worth it." Isaiah turned to

Chapter 28
Chapter twenty eight My eyes skimmed open, new found energy pulsating through my veins. Whatever they were pumping into me, relieved all the pain I felt beforehand and now everything became clearer. Wherever I was, I was on a bed, the comfortable mattress sagging beneath my body mass. A patch was attached in the insides of my wrist, soft at the touch but whatever was coming out of that patch into me was as sweet as nectar. My vision, clearer. My senses, sharper. It was like I was me again. I knew full recovery would be a journey in itself, but I was one step closer to it. Another set of eyes preyed on my own, a tall figure leering over me. Far from the person I was longing to see. His gaze was hard set and didn't crack. His lips permanently etched in a snarl, a jagged scar ran from his head to his chin. It was deep, shallow. "Miss Reign. You've been summoned." "By who?" My eyes shifted round through

Chapter 28.5
Pulling everything in me not to break down into a fit of tears, I stilled myself holding my head high as I blindly followed him. I'd have to come back for him, my conscience couldn't bear it if I abandoned him again.   Another click of a door, swung open but he didn't proceed to move. He just stood there, emotionless. 'This is where I'm required to leave you." With no wait for any form of a reply, he turned on his heels, stalking off back to the entrance way. Abandoning me. My sight adjusted to the dark setting.   Up ahead what I deemed to be a foyer, silver coloured locks filled my senses. Followed by those enchanting blue eyes and that warm chocolate scent. "Evan?" Increasing my pace, I sprint until I crashed down to my brother's height, for a moment he paused, his tiny body stilling underneath me but then he returned my embrace. Mushing his soft cheeks against mine.   "Alexis. I've missed you."

Chapter 29
Chapter 29 "Jordon?" Zee stumbled closer towards the man she has been struggling for months to forget. "Jordon, is that you?" Neither of us could believe it, the initial bewilderment wore off and it was clear that he'd be disloyal to our cause. To us. He'd deceived us. He never died, I don't know how he survived an explosion and the collapse of the complex, but he did and he was here, on the other side. The wrong side.   Zee's hand rested on his cheek, tentatively stroking it, I guess she never thought that she'd get that feeling again.   "It's me, Zee. My God I've missed you." Abruptly he jumped in for a kiss, which she accepted briefly before pulling away, still trying to make sense of the situation.   "But, you died. I witnessed your death, I held you in my arms as you bled out. You can't be here."   He shook his head, taking in all of Zee and a smile broke out on his face, for the first t

He peered up to his superior as if asking for permission, in return he gave a mocking bow. This wasn't the Jordon I've met before. He's changed. And definitely not for the better. "Zee, what they did to me, what they did to my battalion, my class. And all the classes before, you'd never understand. We were beaten if we failed a test, worst if we screwed up on the field. A whole lot worst. At least half the people I came with, half didn't make it out. I made a vow to avenge their deaths and this is me fulfilling my duty, respecting their final wishes. What I went through, it still haunts me to this day, the nightmares come every night and I can't get rid of them."   "Why didn't you tell me? Let me help you."   "We were sworn to secrecy, I couldn't just tell anyone."   She jerked back as if his words, struck her. "So, now I'm just anyone? Not someone you told you wished to spend to rest of your life with. Was this a lie -

Chapter thirty His eyes twitched. "Kill them?"   "Did I stutter?"   Something in me knew his promises would be empty, immediately I ran to Evan, shrouding my arms around him as his face collapsed into my mid-section. He didn't want to see this unfold, as much as I didn't want to either.   "But, sir. We have what we want. Can't you let them go? Zee, at least."   "I don't care for your girlfriend, Jordon. She can be first, if you like?" He uncovered a pistol hugging his hips. Jordon shook his head, his eyes cast downwards. "Good. Now if you'd do the honors, Miss Reign first. It's only fair she pays for her father's mistake." Upon hearing my name, Evan clutched onto me tighter.   Shooting both of them a dirty glare, I focused my attention on Jordon, his sudden movements as he draws out his gun, pointing it to my chest. Maybe his humanity still resided within him, maybe if I

Chapter 30.5
I slid up the wall, awaiting the best time. I knew the longer I waited the worst it would get. Releasing the safety, I threw myself into the action. Repeatedly pulling the trigger, wildly. The force ramming my shoulders backwards. Bullets flew past, yet it was almost like I was immune to them. Not one of them touched me, before they disappeared all together. They had taken cover. Using this as my only opportunity, I dove for the desk, crashing into Isaiah, easily he caught me with one arm. "I've got you."   Quickly, I dragged myself out of his embrace, exactly as another hoard of bullets slammed into the desk. I could hear the wood cracking, splintering off from the force of the bullets.   "Now, I'm just convinced you have a death wish, Alexis." He threw me a smile, using his one good arm to reload the gun, it was a mystery where exactly he got that from, but at this point it really didn't matter. "That was impressive." Referring to what I h

Zee, looked at me then Isaiah, then back to me again before dashing me a sly grin. "Of course. Please, take all the time you need." Whatever she was planning, or had already planned I didn't like where it was heading.   "Thank you." Zee brushed past him, a supportive hand skimming the top of his shoulders. Isaiah took his seat next to me, holding out one of the glasses in my direction. "Here."   Gratefully, I accepted, playing with the rim of the bottle, before pulling my head back, tasting a sip. The liquid alcohol trickled down my throat, the sweet taste filling my mouth.   I've been alone countless times with Isaiah before, but for some reason, this time seemed to unsettle me, like there was a lot more to it.   We sat in a comfortable silence as I found myself hastily taking more sips of my drink.   "You might want to slow down on that." I looked up, his facing holding an amus
