Part 41
Aiden cleared his throat beside me, his hands folded behind his back. I turned around, eyes cast downwards at his shiny black shoes. My breathing was erratic, the sound of blood rushing echoing in my ears, lips parted. Why was I so nervous?      "Rose!" He exhaled loudly.     At the sound of my name escaping his lips, my toes curled around the carpet, eyes fluttering shut. There was almost a few inches gap between us; I realised as his voice echoed in my ears. What could he possibly want now?     "Uhh...I noticed that you don't have a lot of warm clothes. The weather here gets worse in upcoming months, so you need to go shopping."

Part 42
/Aiden's POV/  "Mama!" I called out, breaking the silence that settled in the packhouse, my feet pattering across the creaky floorboard. My lips twisted when I didn't hear a response. Why was my mother not responding to me? Turning five made me reach all sorts of knobs on the door, which excited me. With my newfound ability, I pushed the door of the nearest room, which happened to be my parent's bedroom.    "Mama?" I patted at my mothers back as she hurriedly stuffed her clothes in the bag, shoulders shaking lightly. She didn't turn, bother turning around, pushing her hair away from her face.    "Are we going on a trip, mama?" My lips broke out in a grin; palms excitedly joined together. The last one we went to did not work out for us as daddy had an early meeting.    "No!

Part 43
/Aiden’s POV/ I was annoyed at the abrupt call from Liam, which drove me out of the mall, leaving Rose with Ria. The beta would not have called me if not for the emergency. With that thought in mind, I slid on the green icon, striding out of the mall and towards the parking. It's almost impossible to get a signal inside, and with all the noises, simply not worth answering inside.      “Hello?”    “Alpha Aiden, I apologise for disturbing you, but it’s urgent.”   See? I knew it! Leaning against the hood of my car, I cleared my throat. “Alright. What is it?”    “Pack Alpha Derek called.” L

Part 44
I kept watching as we passed the buildings, my hands fidgeting together, face stoic and blank. The time in that alley was straight out of my nightmare coming to life, rogues chasing and trying to take me away. A lump formed in my throat, making it difficult to swallow as I tried to keep my breathing even. My omega was shaking internally, fear gripping my insides, fingers tightening together.    I would give everything I had and more to make it stop, erase everything wrong that's happened to me and beneath it all, my insides started to boil with anger and defeat. They were too strong for me, so much so I couldn't defend myself. If not for Aiden showing up at the right time, those rogues would have taken me away.    The thought sat heavily in my stomach, making the tips of my finger red, toes curling in my shoes. Ria kept shifting her eyes towards the window, watchin

Part 45
/Aiden's POV/  Liam was eagerly waiting for me in the packhouse. Ria tried to persuade me to check her collection of coats she got from the mall, but I had urgent matters to attend—like checking the contract, Derek sent us.   My beta was not alone. He's sitting at a round table, a tray with steaming tea right in the middle, and two other persons are on the opposite side. The first one's my dad who's shirt was still wrinkled and not done up all the way, but the other one was clad in impeccable suit. Our lawyer. They both looked at me, two pairs of eyes assessing curiosity, one pair brightening up with a smile.     "Aiden!"    The Pack Alpha was mulling over whether to get involved in a war or not. It was a no brainer for me because i

Part 46
/Aiden's POV/  The night's breeze fell gently around us as I tugged her outside. The sky was an indigo colour, with the moon disappearing behind the tops of the pine trees. Our walk to the shopping mart took us about twenty minutes long. My eyes strained while staring at the fog that hadn't cleared up and formed a thick layer on the gravel road. I kicked against a few pebbles on the pavement, pushing my hands in the pants pockets.   The pavement ended when we got to the town border, and I trudged through the high grass alongside the road.   Rose sat on one of the benches in the town square, unable to walk any longer. Her eyes were closed, arms spread on the backrest of the wooden bench, and she was staring at the moon peeking through the clouds. There were a few pack members in the town square, most of them walking their dogs or chatting up one another near

Part 47
When Aiden stared at me, his eyes going wide, it made my heart beat faster breath hitch. For a second, I couldn't believe that those words slipped past my mouth. A blush tinted my cheeks, hot and red, as I tried to avert my eyes from his handsome face.     The feeling was so overwhelming, melting my insides. Aiden asked me to go shopping with him and even let me get whatever I wanted from the never ending aisles. Just to appease him, I threw random items in the cart.     I have never been able to switch off my brain—a habit that's been awful as a child, loud and brash and unable to stay still with my mind providing a constant stream of thoughts. The sole reason I continued to get into trouble, mostly because I hadn't been able to keep my mouth shut, hadn't been abl

Part 48
/Aiden's POV/   "Liam," I started, staring up at my mother with wide eyes. She was sitting by the edge of her bed, legs folded together and an arm wrapped around her belly. As a five-year-old who heard a lot of unfamiliar words, I needed to have my doubts cleared. Who better than the Luna of the Pack? "My friend said his big sister found her mate last week. They will also bond. What does that mean, mum?"   "It means that they will mate for life," She had her lips twisted. "The one she is mated bites her on the neck, severe their ties and promise to love and protect her forever. It's an extraordinary period of our life." The Luna smiled at me softly.     I chewed on my lip, mind whirling with the information that's been poured over, almost too much for my young mind to handle. But I he

I was elated at the crushed look on Ria's face, especially when Aiden didn't back her up. Maybe a tiny part of me was hoping he would take my side all along. Schooling my features, I stood up, gripping the upper part of the chair till my knuckles turned white. The betas perfumed scent almost contaminated the room we sat in, and I wanted to stop it.   "I am sure you have something else going on. We won't keep you waiting here." I bluntly said, hoping my voice didn't waver at the stare directed towards me.     This was our cabin. A safe place for me to make my nest in future—a thought that caused my cheeks to redden. Shaking my head, I tried to focus on the task at hand. Ria needed to evacuate as soon as possible. Knowing how traditional the pack rules are, Aiden shouldn't have a problem with my decision.

Part 50
/His POV/  I couldn’t help but notice that Rose was quiet. Did the gift render her speechless? Or maybe it’s because I would be leaving in few hours. I didn’t know when I would be back, if at all, although I hadn’t said that possibility out loud yet. That’s why I wanted to leave on a happy note, make sure that Rose had everything she would need for a while.    It’s still cold but milder than it’s been for weeks; the sun has already started to peek through the clouds, the air crisp and fresh. I chose one of the more scenic routes if it could be called that. The lawn adjoining my cabin was the only place I could think of.    We didn’t have much time, to begin with.   From
