Chapter 11
Chapter 11: In which he takes her by surprise. I came to with a start when I heard voices in my room.Did a burglar decide to break into an old, dingy, rundown apartment? If so, then maybe I can borrow something from him, since he must have already found out what a terrible mistake that was. How about I told him to pay my next month’s rent in return for not calling the cops?Exactly how delusional was I right now? I was supposed to be sick, not high. Was I actually thinking about making deals with a burglar? Someone who could possibly have a dangerous weapon on him and might end up doing horrible things to me?Knowing that I was only procrastinating from the worst, I opened my eyes to the shocking realization that it wasn't a burglar, but my boss, Nathan Synclair, sitting on a chair by the bed and taking on his phone. Correction, yelling on his phone.Even in a wrinkled blue shirt and grey tailored pants; disheveled short bl

Chapter 12: In which it’s the start of something new. My scowl deepened as Nate continued to laugh, holding onto his stomach. Frankly, I would love to kick him off the bed for making fun of me, but he looked too cute for me to do so.It's been ages since I saw him laugh like the careless teenager that he was back in school and I kinda missed it. The distraction also gave me time to get over the fact that I had just kissed my high school bully and current boss. What had I been thinking? But no matter how much I wanted to regret my decision of kissing him, I couldn’t bring myself to do it. The kiss had felt nice…refreshing and I couldn’t taint that by regretting it. But I still had no idea if Nate had liked the kiss at all, so it was better to just pretend that it never happened, for both of our sake."You done?" I asked, putting on a serious expression. He calmed down."Sorry. But in my defense, that was fu

Chapter 13- In which its time for some action. "Smells delicious!" Nate said as he came into the kitchen, hair still wet from his shower, towel draped over his shoulders and his midnight hair falling all over his forehead. The view would’ve been a hundred times better if a towel was the only thing he was wearing, but alas! He was wearing a light grey t-shirt and black pajama bottoms."Hope it tastes good too," I answered, stirring the spaghetti one last time before adding some freshly grated parmesan over it.I took a serving dish from the cabinet and poured my Spaghetti Carbonara into it, adding some finely chopped parsley over the top. Thank God, Nate's kitchen had all the necessary utensils to make dinner. In fact, it was just like my dream kitchen with everything that a cook would ever need. His fridge however, was an entirely different story. The only edible things that I found in it were some skimmed milk, a little bit of cre

Chapter 14
Chapter 14: In which she takes the first step. After getting the message from Samuel, I retired to my room saying that I was a bit tipsy and sleepy. Not a complete lie since I've never had classy wine before, only cheap beer and dollar store wine back in college, and I had a few too many glasses of the desert wine to make me a bit dizzy, but not completely dead-drunk creepy. So taking the opportunity, I told Nate I'll be going to sleep and we both had work tomorrow so we couldn't stay up late. Nate accepted without a complaint, retiring to his own room. But sleep was hard to come. I had a very disturbing sleep, waking up every half hour to search for my phone so I could call Sam, but then I'd realize that irrationality of the thought as soon as I saw the time. So despite my itchiness, I waited till Roan dropped me off to my apartment the next morning, after getting a HUGE lecture from Nathan about eating a healthy meal before I showed my ass ba

Chapter 15: In which she takes a step towards takedown. "McKenna Corporate?""They are the best distribution agency in town and they also have the best research lab for chemical testing’s. If we buy 20% of the shares their previous shareholder just released in the market...we get a perfect deal with a distributor for our products and a our very own lab for resource testing. And that too at a very effective price," I concluded, ticking off everything that Sam and I had discussed this morning.A textile industry didn’t always need a research lab but our company was thinking about introducing new fabrics that could be water resistant and changed colour during the rain. It was an innovation I was really looking forward to even though I did not understand any of the chemistry behind the whole process."Hmmm," Nate looked thoughtful, probably running the whole scenario through his head while I leaned against his desk, folding my ar

Chapter 16: In which she let the dogs out."So...Nate, how's Taniya?"He's doing this on purpose! He's sooo doing this on purpose! That SOB from Hell!I have to keep repeating “I'll not react to a psychopathic dick" in my mind over and over again to stop myself from jumping over the table and strangling the abomination called Hugh Donovan. That cactus has been going on and on about his and Nate's 'good old' days' like I'm completely invisible, talking about how many women him and Nate had slept with and how many they had shared. Shared? The fuck? They were women, not food, you misogynistic fucker! Nathan, however, had the decency to look the slightest bit ashamed, his hand tightening its grip on mine from under the table as we sat in the lounge room, with coffee and refreshments laid in front. I tried to keep my expression impassive but I was failing miserably while my patience level reached boiling point."How c

Chapter 17: In which she makes a drunken confession. "Okay...so, you and your 'boss'/boyfriend had a moment, where you basically tongue fucked each other, but then he stopped 'cause he wanted to punish you for teasing his former best friend in front of him....and you consider that a good thing? Then why are we in a bar, drowning in your sorrow?""Because I did something really, really horrible!" I whined, vodka in hand and head lying on the table at an awkward angle. Was that why my neck was hurting?"And what might that be?" Nikki said, flipping her gorgeous apple red hair over her shoulder and bringing her Bloody Mary to her plush red lips and taking a sip.I think a guy in the back just fell off his stool trying to have a glimpse of the beautiful redhead sitting next to me.Nikki had, surprisingly, taken her time to get dressed in a short black dress with lace sleeves. She had her hair down in loose c

Chapter 18: In which she gets caught...nearly."Ugh! Who turned on the stupid lights!" I groaned as I tried to cover my eyes with the soft silk blanket. And heard a groan from behind me."Aaaaaahhhhhhh!" I woke up screaming my lungs out, which caused the person next to me to jolt awake with me."Savannah! What the hell!" He said covering his ears."Nathan! What on God's green Earth are you doing in my house?" And then I looked around. "Why on God's green Earth am I in your house?!"“Don’t you remember?” Nate spoke, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. “Your red-head friend dropped you off last night, dead drunk.”Crap! Crap! Crap! What on earth did I do this time?Think Savannah! Think! I thought through a massive hangover. And then it all came back to me...Me calling Nikki for a drink...me getting dead drunk...me spilling my guts out to her..."Aaaaaahhhhhhh!""

Chapter 19: In which she gets disillusioned. It was Monday, and I was running late...again!I swear all this secrecy is making me tired and clumsy. I really need to talk to Sam, but I can't since I know he's planning to overthrow our father from his own company by slowly and steadily buying out the other shareholders and I don't want to disturb him right now. My brother has a very bad temper when he is interrupted.Reaching Synclair Inc. a good 45 minutes later that normal, I was literally jumping up and down (my imaginary way of making an elevator work faster), when the doors opened to Nate’s floor on a scene that I had never expected to find. There was a huge crowd in the lobby, which parted a bit to let me through as I stepped forward, and right in the middle of the crowd was Nathan in a navy blue pin striped business suit and a crisp white shirt, his expression that of a caged lion about to pounce, while two guards sto

Chapter 20: In which she decides to let go. Holding the tray tightly in one hand, I lifted the other and knocked on Nate's door. Thrice. No answer. So I repeated the process again...and again.Still no answer.Strange. I know he's still in because I could see that the lights were on inside his cabin through the small stained glass section on the door. And Nate always turns the lights off when he isn’t inside his office.Discarding formalities, I twisted the doorknob and pushed opened the door. I let Nate have his way throughout the day, but now it's time for the girlfriend to step in.But when I opened the door, my anger at being ignored all day disappeared into thin air.Nathan sat in his chair, working on his laptop, but instead of working, both his hands were on the table, one lying limply on the laptop keyboard and the other folded at the elbow with his head lying on top of it.What s
