Chapter 19
CLAIR I put the radio on full volume, singing along with it while I washed the dishes. Singing, though I wasn’t good at it, helped to relieve my stress, at least for a moment. The fact that I hadn’t seen Jake for the last two days after he left my room was technically stressing me out. So I tried to let go, even just for tonight. I almost dropped the plate in my hand when I saw Aaron leaning on the counter behind me when I was about to spin around to dance along with my music. "What the..." I glared at him before putting the plate down and wiping my hands with my apron. I turned off the radio and faced him again, huffing. "Don’t scare me like that." He shook his head, arms crossed on his chest. "I was actually talking to you, but apparently, the radio was on full blast and I just wasted a tremendous amount of saliva." I rolled my eyes and turned my back on him to continue with the dishes. "I have to bail out on you on your birthday, Clairy." I heard him talk, his voice remorsef

Chapter 20
CLAIR I closed the shower and pulled my towel from where it was hanging to dry off before wrapping it around my body. I only have twenty minutes left before my time starts at the daycare. The daycare houses pups from two to five years old, from six o’clock in the morning up to five o’clock in the afternoon. It would be either their parents were warriors who were in training or had tasks to do, or parents that were working in and outside the territory. I was just on a volunteer status with an allowance. The allowance was something I really don’t need since Dad and Aaron have been providing for all that I need while I stay here. This status would also allow me to quit at any time since I wasn’t sure yet if I wanted to stay here for good or not. But I was truly excited to work there, especially after I saw how refreshing it was to be around the pups. My first day was yesterday when they hired me on the spot, but technically today would be the first time I would go there at a schedule

Chapter 21
JAKE The day was almost over, and I hadn’t seen Clair yet. In two days, I will be heading off to Alpha Caspian’s territory and won’t be back for five days. The thought of not seeing her before I leave started to affect my state of mind. I was starting to become restless. I also just remembered today that her birthday would be on Monday, and if I hadn’t already confirmed the dates with Alpha Caspian, I would have adjusted the travel to another day. It would be too unprofessional if I canceled now. And because of this, Echo has been growling in my head the whole day and just wanted me to search for her. I would have if I could, but as much as I wanted, I had duties I needed to settle before my departure. And this was something my wolf couldn’t understand. It was like fighting off myself, and it was just giving me a full headache. I have been contemplating as well whether Clair’s distraction was a good or bad thing for me. If this girl could distract me and could hinder me from doin

Chapter 22
JAKE I followed her as soon as she walked away and with just a few strides, I was already beside her. I reached out and took the gym bag from her shoulder, placing it on mine. She stopped in her tracks and looked at me, clearly not in favor of my action. "I can carry my own bag. And it’s not like there’s something heavy in it." She said and extended her hand, waiting for me to hand over her bag. Instead, I took her hand and entwined it in mine before pulling her beside me as we started to walk again. "I didn’t say you’re not capable of carrying your bag. I just want to carry it for you." I explained, letting a smile grace my face. Her gaze fell to the ground, and I noticed her cheeks turning pink as she let me lead the way. Sometimes I wondered if I rendered her speechless when I knew she had a sassy mouth, but she seemed to forget how to talk whenever I was around. That, or I was a terrible conversationalist. "How have you been? Did you like it there with the pups?" She nodde

Chapter 23
How could a pure-Alpha blooded person turn his back on his people? I was sure he would be a great Alpha. Everybody told me how he could be greater than my grandfather. But then he never did. He threw it all away. That day, I begged him. I hugged him tightly to let him know I was not mad at him. That I still want him. He shoved me away and went inside his car without looking back. I should be mad and angry, but I wasn’t. I still wanted him. I wrote him letters. Tons. When I didn’t receive anything, I decided to write a letter addressed to her. I begged her. I hated her, but I asked her to come back. I promised her that I would be on my best behavior and that I would be the best son. I even told her that if she returned with my father and they had a son, I would give their son the Alpha post. I wanted my father back more than this Alpha shit. I waited, but the answer never came. I knew they got my letter because every time, the messenger would tell me he had personally handed it to t

Chapter 24
CLAIR Tonight would be the night that I would go clubbing with my brother and some of the pack warriors. I glanced at the clock on my wall and decided I had better get out of bed if I wanted to accomplish my agenda before it was time to head to the bar. It’s already ten o’clock in the morning. I overslept again. Not that I got any sleep at all. I was pissed off with Aaron when he told me last night that Jake will not come with us tonight. When I asked why he simply shrugged his shoulders and said that Jake just doesn’t want to but I didn’t buy it. Jake and I ended on such a good note yesterday that it seemed impossible that he would decline my invitation. Not that I was not aware that he never goes to the bar in his territory, it’s just that my heart didn’t want to accept it. I should have invited him myself yesterday. And aside from that, my conversation with him kept me awake all night. I had no idea how bad his childhood was until yesterday. And I couldn't deny that a part of

Chapter 25
CLAIR "You’re impossible! You don’t have to embarrass me like that! And yes, if that makes you happy. I put on this dress, so I can convince you to come with us! But now I get it. You don’t want to go! At least I tried!" I turned on my heel, ready to walk away when I felt his grip on my wrist. He pulled me around to face him, making my chest collide with his. I tilted my head up and met his dark blue eyes, which were dilating into full black. He leaned closer and whispered in my ear. "Convince me more." His breath ran over the skin of my neck, sending a warm sensation all over my body. Having him this close has suddenly put me and my wolf in a haze. His seductive voice sent shivers of pleasure direct to my core that I had to clamp my legs together to avoid anything from happening down there. I pulled my wrist from his grip without tearing my gaze off his face. My eyes focused on his lips, and before I could control myself, my hands had already found their way to cup his face, befo

Chapter 26
CLAIR After hundreds of changes, I decided to go with a midnight blue timeless asymmetrical bodycon slip dress and paired this outfit up with a sexy three-inch ankle strap heel of the same color with gold accents. I let my hair down and styled a curl at the bottom to spike it up more. The event this morning had me floating on cloud nine. I fell asleep in Jake’s office but left before he could come back to check on me. I didn’t get any confirmation if he would come to the bar with us, but I was hoping he would. After what we shared, I was sure he wouldn’t just let me down that easily. Unless, of course, it meant nothing to him. I wouldn’t deny that, though I hadn’t had sex with anyone, I had my share of self-exploration. A kiss and a touch here and there, but it was never as intimate as what we did. No one had touched me down there, and it pleased me that he was the first. I should feel guilty because I grew up believing that I should be saving myself for my mate. But I didn’t r

Chapter 27
CLAIR "Come on, let’s dance! We can’t just stand here and drink! Let loose!" Jenny swayed her body sexily and bumped my hips, urging me to make a move. "I know, but I want to dance with Jake!" I complained like a brat, before glancing in his direction. "He never dances, trust me! And the last thing you want is for Aaron to take you home once Jake starts dancing with you." She crossed her arms and rolled her eyes, before focusing her eyes on where my brother Aaron stood. "He’s talking to the bartender, but his eyes are on us, so don’t let him think you’re waiting for the Alpha." "Aaaargh! This is so unfair!" I huffed and grabbed my third glass of vodka, downing it in seconds while cursing Aaron. "Come, we’ll think of something to get Aaron’s attention away from you. For now, stop thinking about them and dance with me, birthday girl!" She grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the dance floor, shoving people along the way. I let Jenny drag me to the dance floor beside Chloe and Matt

Chapter 28
JAKE I hit the gas pedal to accelerate speed while Clair continued to kiss and lick my neck. I was trying my best to control myself and my wolf. I was already on the edge, wanting to stop the car and fuck her. It wasn’t helping either that the smell of her arousal was swirling all over me, adding fuel to my desires. I let out a low growl to release my frustration, but she took it as a challenge and started grinding her hips, rubbing her pussy against my throbbing erection. "Clair..." I don’t know what I wanted her to do. I didn’t want her to stop, but I didn’t want to explode yet. "You’re a fucking temptress... Fuck! Clair!" "Hmmm..." She moaned as she licked me, and my excitement went uphill when, finally, the packhouse came into view. I hit the brake hard and pushed the car door open, taking her with me as I stepped out of the car and rushed us inside. For once, I was thankful that only me and my Beta resided here now, and that my Gamma, Clair’s brother, was staying at their ho
