Chapter 41
Arthur smiled sweetly at her as if he were in a dream then his eyes had rolled back into his skull and he collapsed. The full weight of him knocked her over as she screamed in panic.“Arthur! Arthur? Are you okay? Say something!”No matter how she screamed, he didn’t move. His eyes didn’t flutter. He seemed so still. If not for the rise and fall of his chest, Daphne would have thought he was dead.“Daphne,” Blade said hoarsely, “Just calm down. He’s just tired.”Daphne trembled, stroking his hair as Blade sighed and turned his head.“We need to get out of here.”“The village is closest.”“It’s not in any state to treat injuries.” Blade said. Daphne shuddered thinking of the attack. “The castle is our best bet.”She swallowed. Was it Arthur’s castle? Her heart clenched with grief. She’d forgotten her questions

He held Daphne’s hand and walked down the stairs after Rex and Blade towards the sound of people in the great hall where they usually held the meeting. There were a lot more servants than there had been before. As they passed, they looked at Arthur with expectant and eager eyes. Arthur didn’t meet their gazes, deeply uncomfortable with their presence.  “Looks like the meal isn’t served yet,” Rex said. Blade smirked, “Plenty of time for you to dress for dinner.” “Dress?” Arthur asked, suspicious of their tones. “Oh, yes, the head of the servants has been on and on about it for the past three days…” Arthur rolled his eyes, “No, thanks.” “Arthur,” Daphne said looking at him, “Won’t you at least humor them a little? They’ve been working really hard.” He pouted, his shoulders slumping before glancing at the group of servants who seemed to be eagerly awaiting the sign that it would be okay. He didn’t want to. Honestly, the only

Chapter 43
Arthur stared at her for a moment, clenching his hands and holding himself still. He didn’t want to push too far, but Daphne looked up at him calm and wanting. There was something in her eyes that told him she understood what he was asking, but he had to be sure.“A-Are you sure?”Daphne pulled him forward to brush her lips across his, “Yes.”Arthur pulled her close, holding her against him, “Hold on to me.”Daphne wrapped her arms around his neck, “What are you—”She yelped as Arthur jumped from the balcony, reaching for the open balcony on the next floor.“Arthur! We could have just walked back through the party.”Lucas and Arthur snorted as he pulled them onto the second-floor balcony and deposited Daphne on the other side of the railing first.“They would have just tried to hold us up and…” He ducked his head as her face turned red. &

Chapter 44
The morning came slowly. Daphne couldn’t remember going to sleep. Her body ached as if she had been running for hours the morning before, but she felt content. She opened her eyes slowly.“Daphne?”She looked up at Arthur. His eyes sparkled in the morning light streaming in through the windows. He smiled at her as memories of the night before came to mind. She averted her gaze, feeling shy under his gaze. “G-Good Morning.”Arthur drew closer to kiss her, stealing her breath as he slipped his tongue between her lips. Pleasure struck through her and she moaned. Arthur groaned, slipping between her legs, already hard and pushing against her.“But, last night, Arthur…” Daphne’s face burned. “How are you like this?”“I want you,” Arthur murmured, grinding against her. “Is that okay? Can I have you?”Daphne worried her lip but nodded. She gasped

Tom led Daphne down the corridor. Torches illuminated the way and illuminating the two large portraits, so she saw them clearly before they reached the end of the corridor.“Are these… his parents?”“King Dean and Luna Sabina.”She smiled up at the portraits. She had no way of ever knowing what her parents looked like, but she’d grown up with stories of them through her grandmother. She was glad that Arthur had some connection to his parents even if it was just their portraits.“He looks just like his father,” Daphne said, wringing her hands. Luna Sabina had been a beautiful woman. Arthur’s brilliant blue eyes looked down at her from within her face. She wondered if Sabina would have liked her. “So… what did you actually want to talk about?”Tom gave her a little smile, “You’re… quite perceptive.”“It’s about Arthur, isn’t it?

Chapter 46
He stared down at the first two words on the page for a moment before rolling it back up placing it in the box. He didn’t want to read words from a dead man he couldn’t remember right now. It felt highhanded and manipulative in some way to have a letter held together by what Arthur knew had been King Dean’s ring.If the man had known he wouldn’t survive the battle, why not make sure his mother was safe and with Arthur and Alma? If he and Daphne ever had children, he would never let her come back to die with him when their children were too young to protect themselves. He turned and found the woman offering him the key with a small smile.“It is… yours after all.”He nodded stiffly, thanked her, and took the key and the box with him back to his room.  Daphne wasn’t there when he arrived, but her scent lingered in the air. He sunk onto the bed and opened the box carefully. It was strange to know that he

Arthur couldn’t help himself. Her scent was filling his senses and she looked so delicious, soaking wet and his.His mate.He licked his lips and she gasped.“A-Arthur?”He lowered his head and kissed her, lifting her out of the water. She wrapped her arms and legs around him with a little gasp of shock.“Arthur, what about the—”“The fire can wait.” Arthur growled, “Do you not want me?”Daphne huffed at the question. She did, but she also knew if they got started, he wouldn’t want to stop. She tried to explain that, but Arthur was kissing her again, walking back towards the tree line to where a large boulder sat. She felt the cool stone under her hips as he set her down; kissing her as if he wanted every breath she had for his own.She moaned as his hands skimmed her thighs and one slipped between her legs. She threw her head back with a cry as he stroked her. A

As they drew nearer, Daphne’s joy turned sour. Planks were missing from the sides of the cabin, broken as if a wild animal had pulled them off. The gate and fence had been torn down and vines were starting to grow over the remains of the gate. Her heart clenched in grief seeing the state of the cabin. She expected some damage, but not like this.Arthur growled, “Those bastards did this…”Daphne slid off his back and approached the cabin. There was blood still staining the floor. Glass was still everywhere and her bed had been broken in half. It seemed like they’d tried to destroy everything in the cabin, but nothing she was concerned about had been damaged. The few books that had been on the shelf had been knocked off the shelf but seemed intact. They had been her grandmother’s.“Help me clean it up?” Daphne asked.Arthur shifted into his human form and came to her side, “What should I do?&rdqu

Chapter 49
Brown Valley’s pack patrol had returned from hunting Arthur empty-handed. The lack of victory had angered Haley and Irene. In response, the patrol members had begun shirking their duties. First, they stopped patrolling three times a day, reducing it to just once in the morning and once in the evening. As Haley’s paranoia began to grow and their son, Adam, started to show himself as an unworthy successor, the morale of the pack and the patrol continued to decline. This morning, the patrol leader didn’t bother to call the patrol members for the morning shift.“It’s not like they care anyway,” he said with a shrug. “And if the alpha and luna don’t care, why should we?”No one disagreed. The patrol members spent the morning with their families, willfully ignoring their duties. Haley and Irene woke up the way they always did with one thing on their minds: Adam. They had held several mating ceremonies

Daphne gasped, shocked at Arthur’s words. She felt the air shaking around them. She had prepared herself to watch Arthur tear them apart.“What the hell are you talking about?” Haley bared his teeth at them. “You don’t…”“Traitors are not welcome in the werewolf kingdom,” Arthur growled. “Never will you be anything more than the rogues you sent to murder me.”Haley winced and stumbled, pressing a hand to his chest. Irene swooned and let out a little gasp of agony. Haley’s wolf wailed as bonds of the pack and the place where he held the power of alpha over the pack shattered, draining him.He looked at his wife and knew she was feeling the same way. How had he done this?“Banished?” Haley gasped.“No!” Irene shrieked. “Y-You can’t!”Arthur growled, grabbing Haley by the arm. He cried out in terror, bracing himself for the
