“ANSWER ME YOU SLUT! Since when?!”“Sorry mom! I’m sorry!”“Fucking slut! When will you stop being useless?!”As I pushed the main door open, I saw mom throw her handbag across the room and stomps angrily towards my sister. On the other hand, Ayle tries to prop herself up on her elbow, but collapsed in an instant.“Mom, stop!”Mom ignores me and continue grabbing my sister’s hair, forcing her to look at mom. “Tell me, since when you started seeing him again?”“I- not-”“Speak properly!”With that, mom forcefully bangs Ayle’s head, causing it to bump on the wall. She then proceeds to grab Ayle by her throat, once again, keeping her eyes at mom. I run towards them and try to separate Ayle from mom.“Mom, stop it! You might kill her!”Mom shot me a furious look after loosen her hand around Ayle’s ne

We ran back through the treesStaring up through the leavesNot a cloud to be seenAnd the birds were still singing for usAnd the sun had drawn nearAnd the sounds we could hearWere so sweet and so clearAnd the world it was gleaming for usGleaming for us I hummed softly to the song of Anson Seabra being sung by some street performers. I sighed as the song ended, then they start singing another song I don’t think I have ever heard before. Tapping my foot softly on the wet grass, I choose to look around the park. It’s almost nine at night but the park is still packed.I have been eyeing the ice cream stall which is only about twenty feet away from my seat. But I don’t want to move, because if I do, my seat will be taken. And I know there are most likely no seats available. Not to mention, there are up

“Why did you cheat on mom then?”Dad lit up his cigarette. Without sparing me any glance, he starts to inhale then exhale the smoke slowly. He did the same thing twice, before finally resting the burning cigarette between his pointer and middle finger.Dad hasn’t looked at me. He brings his eyes looking at the clear sky while smiling, “I want a simple family, but your mom doesn’t.”I didn’t make any comment and wait for him to continue.“When I was young, I used to dream of living in a single-family home. When I come home after work, I’ll have dinner with my family while telling how our days went. On the weekend, we will either go fishing, gardening, or just chilling while watching movies.”I heard he chuckled shortly, “it sounds stupid, isn’t it?”As dad turns his eyes to meet mine, I keep my mouth shut. He

I muttered a thank you to the waiter who just served me. I fished out my phone from my pocket, checking if there are unread chats. From: Ayle“I’m home and no, I didn’t meet him. Also, good luck for your dinner.” I tap on the picture Ayle sent me. It’s a photo of her laying on her bed while watching Netflix. I typed an ‘okay good’ to reply her. It’s seven past ten but Mom isn’t here yet, and so does her business partner.I decided to surf the social media and go to Rosie’s account to see if there is any new update, but I found none. I checked on my last chat, which was an hour ago asking her what is she doing. Rosie hasn’t read my chat yet. I huffed and decided to shove back my phone inside my suit.As I looked up, I saw the waiter who served me earlier, is walking towards my table with a girl. Is this mom’s business partne

I half-jogged to where Rosie is while bringing two cones of ice cream. As I come nearer, I saw there is a little boy holding a smiley-faced balloon, sitting beside her. Maybe he is around seven? Or eight years old?“Are you single?”What the fuck?Out of every question coming from a little guy, I truly don’t expect that one.I heard a faint chuckle coming from Rosie. “What if I am?”“You are so pretty.”I cleared my throat, announcing my presence. I smiled at them, but the rude kid narrowed his eyebrow.“Is he your boyfriend?”Whoever own this kid, please take him away.“No, he is my friend.”“Okay, it is good to hear.”I am so done with this demon.Rosie laughed out loud. I scoffed and choose to sit beside Rosie. I lend Rosie her ice cream, which she thanked and smile for it. I squinted my eyes a

Nervous is an understatement. I’m literally freaking out. My feet keep bouncing on its own. It’s like a cycle every time I realized and stopped it, then it will go back bouncing shortly. The last time I feel like this, is when I was still a junior who screwed up my work and wait for Maggy to beat my ass.Rosie and I are currently on our way to the restaurant mom has reserved. The dinner is at seven, which means around half an hour from now. But this is basically my family and Rosie’s first meeting, so I wouldn’t want to leave any bad impression, especially being late.Rosie looks all good tonight with her an off-shoulder maroon dress. It is a high low dress with its front a bit above her knee. She wears a white high heel which makes her almost as tall as I am. I swear she could wear a sack and still pull it off. It’s embarrassing how I shamelessly staring at Rosie when I picked her up earlier until she snapped me out of my daydream.

“I see you have been living a good life huh?”“It’s seriously none of your business.” I fasten my pace towards Rosie who is now, might being bothered by an old man. He wears an all black outfit along with a black cap. The street is quite dark, but I can still see the creepy smile from the old man.“Rosie!”Rosie turned around while the old man tilted his head to the side, both looking at my direction. As soon as I reached her, I slightly pull Rosie away from this creepy man.“Wow,” the old man chuckled and clapped, “so you got yourself a money machine? That explains your luxurious outfit tonight?”Wait, he talked as if both of them know each other? I watched how this man looked at me from head to toe, then smirked and bobbed his head several times.Rosie gritted her teeth, “I said it’s none of your business. Now get out of my

“I will forgive you this time. Just don’t repeat it.” “Mistake? What mistake are you talking about, mom?” I should’ve known better than to come home tonight. It’s almost twelve and I come home to mom waiting for me in the living room. It’s been a long night and I just hope to come home to a peaceful house. I guess it was too much to ask. I sighed and flop down onto the couch. “You were too much.” I said, referring to the dinner earlier. I heard mom scoffed, “that bartender really did something to you, huh?” “I didn’t see anything wrong with liking her.” Mom’s face screams disapproval. She snorted, “that impolite bartend-” “Mom, her name is Rosie. And no, she is polite. She greeted you, remember? It was you who ignore her!” I cut her off. I realized I just raised my voice, for the second time tonight. Mom looked at me in disbelief. Her eyes flashed with anger, but she decided to stay calm. “You are not the Alex I know. A

“Remind me what is your job scope again, Mr. Pierce?”“Editing copy, researching images, proofreading articl-”“Exactly. How come I could still find errors there?” My face remains stoic as I glanced at the maroon map on my table.John groggily grabbed the printed article he submitted last week. He scanned through the paper. His eyes widen as he found the error I meant. Typos. A basic and stupid mistake for an editorial team.“I’m sorry, Sir. I’ll revise it and get back to you as soon as possible.”“If I find any typos on your future articles, just pack your things and leave.”John muttered one last apologize before leaving the room. I could feel Bryan’s eyes are on me. I sighed and turned back my focus to the laptop. There are several articles need to be reviewed so it could be published by the end of next month.“Aren’t you a bit harsh
