60: Friendship gone bad
“We should celebrate,” I tell Ken as we step down from the bus and approach the gate of the estate. We have a few more days to get ourselves ready to leave the estate and begin our new lives. While I don’t know about the rest, Caroline and I already made plans to attend the same uni, which is that of Northrich, the most prestigious university in the city. It has always been my dream to attend and despite having the opportunity to attend any institution of my choice; I feel they can give me what I want. They are also a good choice because they have a no-violence environment that discriminates against no one. I hope to learn as much as I can and when Caroline heard about it a week ago; she came on board. We applied and submitted our results to the university’s portal and their response would come in today or tomorrow, hopefully. There’s so much to celebrate and be thankful for, and I want to celebrate every moment. Ken’s still ye

61: Plans for the future
My beeping phone wakes me up, and I blindly reach for it on the nightstand.I bring the phone up and my lashes pull apart to see Dane’s ID boldly written on its screen. I sit up and pick the call.“Hello, good morning, princess,” Dane’s radiant voice charges through the phone, causing my stomach to flutter in a good way.I rub my eyes. “Hello, Dane.”“I woke you up.” he now sounds withdrawn, probably rethinking his choice of calling at this time.“I don’t have work anymore. Instructions were to come in and clear our desk of belongings, so I hoped to at least sleep till 8 a.m.”“Then I’m sorry I woke you up. I just wanted to hear your voice before starting my day, and now I have. I can’t wait till I see you later.”It was Monday and unlike the past Mondays; I had no work or duties. So I can leave for the industry whenever I&

62: Love and trust
“Jaclyn!” I hear my name as I approach the company’s building and I turn to the familiar voice to see Ace stroll towards me, holding the usual bright smile on his face. “Ace,” I smile a little and slow down to acknowledge his presence. “You barely come out anymore. It’s almost as if you’ve forgotten about me,” he states, his voice unsure. “I haven’t. The trial is over and I no longer work here... Well, for now, anyway. I’m making plans for my first year of uni, so there’s a lot on my mind. I came to see someone.” I came to see Dane, but I don’t think he should know that. Last week he asked me to pick a position I was most comfortable with in the industry and he would give it to me no matter how high. I, however, came today to inform him I couldn’t take his offer. I am just starting uni and I need to concentrate on that first. If the offer is still up after I’m done, then I’d consider it. I know this will hurt Dane, but it’s for

63: The game of honesty
“You’re staring?” Dane speaks, his grey eyes lifting from the steak before him to lock in mine. I glance down at my stake. “I’m just curious. You said you would reveal more truth about yourself at dinner, but so far you haven’t said a word.” my confession comes with a small voice while I use the fork in my hand to toy with my stake. “I hoped we’d at least finish eating before diving into that?” his brow rises. “Oh,” I mutter, digging my fork further into the stake before lifting it and bringing it to my mouth. This would taste heavenly if the revelation I hope to hear from Dane soon did not already plague my mind. Nonetheless, I eat and get a little meat into my system. Last I check it helped keep up from going insane. “How’s your preparation for uni going?” he asks, after placing his fork and knife down beside the almost empty plate and picking up the glass of orange juice. “Very well, Caroline and I will be roo

64: The full moon curse
His eyes widen, and I see panic flash in them. He drives to a lonely side of the road and packs the car before adjusting to stare at me. “I can’t. It’s the full moon and it won’t be safe.”  “I want to be there for you.”  His hand lift to caress my cheeks and my eyes flutter and my body squirms at his touch. “Jaclyn, I can’t, I’m sorry. I do not want you to see me like that. If you do, you might not want to be with me anymore.” I wrap my hands tightly around his as if my life depends on him hearing me out. “I won’t do that because I love you.” A look of surprise comes onto his face and his hand on my face grew softer. “You love me?”  What I’ve felt for him had to be love. Anyone with eyes could see, but so many don’t realise it when someone loves them.

65: All for love
At first, he struggles to get free, but seeing that ripping my hands out of its socket would be the only way to escape my hold; he gave into the hug and wrapped his chained arms around me.We stay that way, and I hear no sound or snap of his bones. However, instead of the snap and growl, I hear a soft howl and the skin of his body touching mine becomes hairier, and this makes me pull back to see him shifting. My heart double a beat and I try to pull back, but he grabs me by my hands and stays me in my position. My breathing is rigid from fear, but something in his glowing eyes tells me to not be afraid of this, of him.Right before my eyes, Dane transforms into a big black wolf bigger than anyone I’ve ever seen before, and his chains slip off him.The last time I was face to face with a wolf, he jumped me. That was Ken, and here I am face to face with a big and terrifying wolf and hoping he doesn’t rip me into shreds rig

66: The game of love
I twirl around on the bed to find Dane's intent focused on me. My lashes draw further apart and I wasn't dreaming cause there he was, staring at me with a look I can't quite place my hands around. I pull the covers over my head to hide away from his gaze. But he yanks the cover down a little and when his face comes up to my view again, there is a smile on it. "Good morning, sweetheart." he greets, pulling me closer. "I hope you slept well."My back rests against his chest and shivers run around my stomach at the contact of our bodies. The memories of last night returned to my mind at the contact, making me melt away on the inside and I don't want it to leave."Good morning and yes, I did.""Then why are you hiding away?" I groan, "Cause I look hideous and you're gawking at me."He had made me feel beautiful with his touch and affections, but I am still at the stage of getting used to it."You're right. I was g

67: No where is safe
Caroline and I make our way back from biotech class and we talk all the way through about the courses and lecturers while adjusting to the life of Uni. It's been almost a month since our resumption and so far adjustment to this life happened better than we expected and we both looked forward to meeting new people and making friends just as we hoped on keeping good grades.  Caroline had faced the dilemma of choosing their mate over their career and hearing her side of the tale told me I wasn't the only one who faced such.  She’s presently on the phone with Quinton, who complained about her choice of university. He had hoped she would also apply to Cambridge just like him so they could always be around each other, but she broke his heart when she told him her plans. He's still heartbroken about her choice.  One reason the Go Project even exists is to give people like us equal opportunities in life, but somehow our mates have a hard time understan

68: Not mutual
“You will be safe here,” Dane tells me as he sets my bags down before the large wooden cottage in the woods. I had gathered the little things I had together last night and went to class this morning. After my last class ended, Dane picked me up, and we flew back to Beverly Hill to his private cottage in the woods, where he believed I’d be safer and away from the reach of the rebels in his pack. I did not want to leave the university. My future was at stake, but better my future than my life, and as much as I wanted to grumble, I did as I was told. There was a Kia motor waiting on our arrival at the airport and Dane gets in after the attendant loaded the car with my bags and for the next two hours we drive to our destination. The cottage, despite being in the woods, has a massive security system that cannot easily get bypassed. With a voice recognition lock and facial identification system. The house provided security and comfort

69: What no one saw coming
Three more minutes and it will be six p.m., making it three hours later than when Dane usually returned home since we’ve been at the cottage in the last few days. He had been on the search of the rebels in his pack. He told me we would be out before the end of the week this morning and that’s two days away. The full moon was tonight, and he needed to be with me, and nowhere else. He promised to come straight over when he was done with work and his search, but I haven’t seen him.  I lower my phone from my ear after the twentieth ring and Dane doesn’t answer.  What if something bad had happened to him?  What if he never returns? To say I’m worried is an understatement. I’m someone who’d stop calling after the second ring, but with everything happening, I have no control. I’m being crushed with worries and my nerves are raging and my heart pounding in my chest so loud can be heard from a mile away. A forceful knock comes to
